Connection fee debate continues in Elkton
Elkton is debating whether to lower its water and sewer connection fees and the rationale for deciding how this fee should be divided between “availability” – also called “capital recovery,” including the use of, or upgrading of, the sewer and water system – and the actual cost of connection of water and sewer lines to a new house.
Despite its somewhat misleading name, a “connection fee” has both purposes in mind – simple connection and upkeep or improving the system. In the near future, the town is probably going to make a major investment in “clarifiers” at its sewer treatment plant. The price for these could easily exceed $1 million.

Soap Box Derby planned for April in Elkton
Spring is a time when the thoughts of many are turning to the derbies.
Not to the famous Irish Sweepstakes or Kentucky Derby, but to a pair of soap box derbies right here at home.
The first will be held on Saturday, April 20, by the Elkton Boys and Girls Club’s STEM program in Elkton. The second is held by the Harrisonburg Derby Club, with racing on Washington Street.
Capping the season for winners of the Elkton event is a special STEM derby held May 18, at the “All-American Soap Box Derby” track site in Akron, Ohio.
