Holtzman named Outstanding Virginian

A Shenandoah County native was honored as the 33rd recipient of the Virginia General Assembly’s “Outstanding Virginian of the Year” award at a ceremony at the 4-H Educational Center on Saturday. William B. Holtzman, 75, who turned a small distributorship in Mount Jackson into Holtzman Corp., a regional gas, oil, construction and food conglomerate, received the award from his daughter, state Sen. Jill Holtzman Vogel (R-Upperville).

Warren County Schools request funds for 23-acre middle school site

In order to keep moving toward a 2016 opening for Warren County's new middle school, the Board of Supervisors must appropriate funds for the school board to purchase the property chosen for the school. The 23-acre piece of land is located at the intersection of Happy Creek Road and the proposed Leach Run Parkway and owned by the Front Royal Warren County Economic Development Authority.

Shenandoah fish recover from mysterious kills

Eight years after the smallmouth bass population in the Shenandoah River began dying off in large proportions, Shenandoah Riverkeeper Jeff Kelble says they have “recovered completely” from the mysterious malady that nearly wiped them out.
