Generals fall just short of state soccer title

At the final whistle of Sunday's state championship game at Radford University, Stonewall Jackson High School senior Juan Luna and several teammates lay sprawled out on the pitch, physically and emotionally drained after a painful 2-1 loss to perennial power George Mason. As the Mason players celebrated around him, Luna just lay there, lost in thoughts of what might have been as his General teammates consoled him.

Shenandoah Valley Golf Club’s new owner a familiar face

Richard Runyon has been employed at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club since he was a teenager attending Warren County High School. Runyon has served the club in every capacity from cart boy, range picker, to head PGA Professional to general manager. Earlier this month, Runyon and partner Mac Hinkel of Winchester, realized a life long dream with the purchase of the club for $2 million.

Nicholson claims medal despite injury at Group AA track meet

Despite suffering from a persistent groin injury, Warren County senior jumper Matthew Nicholson managed to claim the eighth and final medal in the boys' high jump at last weekend's Group AA state track and field meet at Harrisonburg High School.

Lady Hawks fall in Region II softball quarterfinals

After posting the program's first ever Region II tournament victory the Skyline Hawks most successful season to date came to an end last Thursday with a 5-2 loss to the No. 1 seeded Powhatan Indians. Tied 2-2 after four innings, defensive breakdowns by the Hawks led to three unearned runs by the Indians. The Hawks couldn't recover.
