13-year-old hit by truck, dies

The Shenandoah Valley-Herald

WOODSTOCK — A Woodstock boy was killed on July 1 when a truck struck him as he drove a minibike outside a residence south of Hoover Road.

Sgt. F.L. “Les” Tyler of the Virginia State Police said the driver of a 2015 Ford F-450 hit Tyler Allen Miller, 13, when Miller drove the minibike in front of the truck as the driver tried to park outside the home at about 10 a.m.

Tyler didn’t release the identity of the driver, the home’s address or whether either or both parties lived there because the accident occurred on private property.

He said that according to Trooper M.W. Painter, who investigated the accident, “some kind of vegetation” blocked Miller’s and the truck driver’s views of each other as the driver pulled into the home’s driveway.

Tyler said no charges will be filed against the driver.

State troopers were assisted at the scene by the Woodstock Police Department, the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office and the county Department of Fire and Rescue.
