ELKTON — Elkton is seeking to lease two parcels of town-owned land for agricultural use.

The town is seeking bids for renting 12 acres on Mount Pleasant Road and four acres at the intersection of Bear Lithia Springs Road and North Eastside Highway.

The land on Mount Pleasant Road is part of the several properties totaling around 300 acres the town purchased from the Kite family in 2001.

Most of the land was sold to developer Pham Chopra in 2015.

A public notice published last week indicated the land on Mount Pleasant Road is 44 acres.

However, Zoning Administrator Charlotte Shifflett wrote in an email Friday that it is “12 acres only” and a corrected notice will be printed.

The town requires the land be used for “making hay or planting crops,” according to a public notice, and it cannot be rented to a third party.

Mayor Wayne Printz, who is acting town manager, said the town seeks competing proposals for renting the property every three years.

Printz said the town is leasing the properties, but didn’t know who the tenant is or the terms of the rental agreement. Shifflett wouldn’t name the tenant or how much they paid in rent.

Proposals can be sent to Charlotte Shifflett at 20593 Blue and Gold Drive, Elkton, VA 22827. Bids are due March 17 by 1 p.m.
