Grottoes lawn party ready to get underway

GROTTOES — The Grottoes Volunteer Fire Department’s annual lawn party gets underway this week and is held from Wednesday through Saturday, July 19-22, at Mountain View Park.

Food sales begin at 4 p.m. daily, with takeout options available.

Food includes fried chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, fried country ham, barbecue, fries, funnel cakes and more.

There is also bingo set for 6 p.m. nightly and a cake wheel available. Cake donations are being accepted and can be dropped off at the fire department anytime or the lawn party grounds during the times of the event.

Wednesday is Veterans Night, with veterans offered a free meal with valid identification. A kids’ pedal pull competition will begin at 6:30 p.m. Music will be provided by Southern Grace.
Rides begin Thursday, with a $15 armband offering unlimited turns from 5 to 10 p.m. Music guests will be The Hackens Boys.

On Friday, an $18 armband allows unlimited rides from 5 to 11 p.m. with bluegrass music offered by Totally Unrelated.

Also Friday, the annual Fireman’s Parade begins at 7 p.m. Lineup starts at 6 p.m. and no registration is necessary. The parade starts on 6th Street and Forest Avenue and proceeds to 20th Street at the entrance to the lawn party grounds.

Prizes will be awarded for Best Appearing Fire Company, Best Appearing EMS Agency, Best Appearing Non-Commercial Float, Best Appearing Commercial Float, Best Appearing Antique Vehicle, Best Appearing Tractor and for Majorette groups. All entries will receive a ticket for a $100 “parade participation” award.

On Saturday, rides will again be available for $18 armband from 5 to 11 p.m., with country and southern rock music from Sean Elliott Jr. and 460 South. Fireworks are planned at 10 p.m.
Also set for Saturday is the 13th annual Summer Bash Raffle starting at 5 p.m. at the lawn party grounds. Prizes are drawn every 10 minutes and tickets are $25 each.
