LURAY — Hubert Price, a life-long resident of Page County, has been appointed to the position of Assistant Secretary General and Head of the UN Support Office in Somalia.

Price is a 1972 graduate of Luray High School, who had a 20-year career on active duty with the United States Army, including tours of duty during Desert Storm, before stepping down in 1996.

A career with the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations. Assignments included operations in Angola, East Timor, Liberia, Italy and New York. He retired in 2015.

Price resumed his civilian life in Luray in December of last year, before being contacted by the United Nations and being asked to return to take up the newly-created, temporary position of Head of the UN Support Office in Somalia. The headquarters is spread between Modadishu, Somalia and Nairobi, Kenya.

Attempts to reach Price for comment were unsuccessful.

"We all graduated from Luray High School," said Price's brother, Miller.

He notes that their family has a rich history in Luray.

"Our maternal grandparents were Miller and Ora Roudabush, whose house was across from the courthouse," Miller said. "It was later sold to Page County, which they used for county offices before razing the building to build the current county offices."

Hubert Price and his wife live on Hawksbill Heights Drive, and plan to return there after his services are no longer needed.

"Even though they are overseas a lot, the Luray home is their permanent home," Miller said.
