BOYCE — A girl tubing on the Shenandoah River in Clarke County with her family on Sunday afternoon had to be pulled from the water when "she got caught up by the current," Clarke County Fire and EMS Director Brian Lichty said.

After being rescued by family members and bystanders, she was taken to Winchester Medical Center, Lichty said. Her condition was not believed to be life-threatening.

Lichty had limited information about the incident, which occurred around 3:15 p.m. in the vicinity of John Mosby Highway (U.S. 50) and Swift Shoals Road. A text message alert from Clarke County emergency services identified the girl as being 8 years old.

Personnel from Warren County Fire and Rescue Co. 6, on Howellsville Road, were the first on the scene. Boyce Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co. and the Clarke County Sheriffís Office also responded.
