ELKTON – Businesses in town are being encouraged to decorate in purple from April 18 to 22 as part of an American Cancer Society fundraiser.

Elkton’s events coordinator, Allison Morris, said purple “love bows” are being sold at town hall and the Elkton Area Community Center for $3 each or two for $5.

The bows are for those who have defeated cancer, are fighting the disease or in memory of loved ones.

The bows will be put on the town tree on Rockingham Street across from town hall for an April 20 ceremony at 1 p.m.

Paint the Town Purple is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay For Life.

Morris, who is a member of Elkton Cares’ Relay For Life team, said the team is looking for additional members. The 10-member team raised over $4,000 last year.

This year’s Relay For Life will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds.

For more information, call Morris at 298-9860.
