Remains found near Appalachian Trail ID’d as missing Maryland man

FRONT ROYAL — The remains of a Maryland man who was missing since December were found Sunday in a wooded area near the Appalachian Trail's Remount Road entrance, according to a Warren County Sheriffís news release.

John Patrick Donohoe, 36, of Bethesda, Md., was reported missing Dec. 13, 2016, to the Montgomery County Police Department, the release said.

The Warren County Sheriff's Office and Fire and Rescue units were dispatched to the scene Sunday when a hiker found what appeared to be the remains of a body on Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute property, the release said.

The units arrived to a deceased maleís body, which was transported to the Virginia Medical Examiner's Office in Manassas for identification and cause of death, the release said. Donohoe's cause of death is still under investigation by the Medical Examinerís Office.

The Warren County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the National Zoological Park Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Virginia State Police, National Park Police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
