FRONT ROYAL — The executive director of the United Way of Front Royal-Warren County announced her retirement this week, according to a news release.

Lee Smith-Osina has run the United Way of Front Royal-Warren County since 2007, and said in a letter to the board of directors that now is the correct time to move on in her professional career. Her retirement will become effective on June 30.

The local United Way chapter provides funds to 11 member agencies and funds projects "relating to basic living needs, abuse and neglect, health and mental health, dependent care and juvenile delinquency and youth," the release said.

United Way volunteers helped local disabled homeowners with repair projects friday during its annual Day of Caring.

The United Way Board of Directors is interviewing candidates for the position. Executive Administrative Assistant Merry-Lynn Sheetz will run operations until a replacement is found.

President of the Front Royal-Warren County United Way Bret Hrbek, on behalf of the board of directors, thanked Smith-Osina for her service to the community and organization and wished her well in future endeavors.

"Under her leadership the United Way of Front Royal-Warren County has grown into a powerful force for good in the county," Hrbek said. "We look forward to continuing the momentum and building on that success to serve the needs of the people of Warren County."
