Women to rock gazebo Saturday

FRONT ROYAL — Five female-fronted bands will be featured at a fundraiser this weekend to help the Phoenix Project of Warren County.

The Women of Rock concert is scheduled from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Downtown Gazebo.

The event is free but donations will be accepted for the agency that helps victims of domestic violence, said Katie McComas, domestic violence counselor.

"It's whatever the public feels like giving," she said.

The bands slated to perform include Impeached, Novarium, Cross the Sea, Echoes of Eden and Brittany Foushee, according to the event flyer.

Miss Warren County Abby Lopez also is scheduled to make an appearance.

A similar fundraiser was held earlier this summer at Skyline Ranch Resort, McComas said.

The Phoenix Project is a nonprofit organization that rose from the ashes of Harmony Place, the Warren County Council on Domestic Violence shelter that closed in 2013 because of ongoing financial problems.

Services for domestic violence victims include counseling, crisis intervention, safety planning, court accompaniment, support groups, education and providing links to community resources. In addition, the agency has set up a network of hotels and safe houses in Warren County to help keep domestic violence victims safe when danger is imminent.

The Phoenix Project operates a local, 24-hour hotline. The number is (540) 635-2300. All services are free and confidential.
