NEW MARKET — A New Market family of three was displaced after the roof of their home burned last Sunday afternoon. New Market Volunteer Fire Company crews responded to 151 Shady Lane after an emergency call was placed at 2:14 p.m.

Edinburg man indicted on capital murder charge

WOODSTOCK — A Shenandoah County grand jury indicted an Edinburg man accused of killing an elderly woman last spring. Claude Delmus Shafer Jr., 36, was indicted Wednesday on a charge of capital murder in the commission of a robbery in connection with the slaying of 65-year-old Phyllis Henrietta Kline of Edinburg.
