Jeanette E. Lam


Jeanette Elizabeth Lam, 82, of Port Republic, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

She was born in Harrisonburg, on March 5, 1934, and was a daughter of the late Rosie Mae (Via) and Stuart F. Morris.

She retired in 1989 from American Safety Razor.

In 1961, she was united in marriage to Randolph “Randy” H. Lam, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son, Gary Lam of Grottoes; a sister, Thelma Cash of Harrisonburg; a brother, Ben Morris of Danville; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

Her body was taken to her home in Port Republic, where the family received friends this past Saturday and Sunday.

A graveside service was conducted Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at Port Republic Cemetery with Pastor Jim Kite officiating.

Addylin M. McQuinn


Addylin Mae McQuinn, 2 months, of Harrisonburg, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

She was born in Harrisonburg, on Nov. 16, 2016, and was a daughter of Felicia Mae Thornton-Gooden and Denber Kele McQuinn.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Colton Bradley McQuinn; maternal grandparents, Mary Thornton and Frankie Gooden; paternal grandparents, Richard Hunt and Kathy McQuinn; and paternal great-grandparents, George and Diane McQuinn.

The family received friends Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes.

A funeral service was conducted Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at the funeral home.

Burial was at Edgewood Cemetery in Grottoes.

Richard K. Williams


Richard Keith Williams, 55, of Elkton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017.

He was born June 15, 1961, in Harrisonburg, and was a son of Ellen B. Hensley Williams of Elkton and the late Edward Jackson Williams.

He worked for 26 years at MillerCoors.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and Harley rider.

On Sept. 7, 2002, he married Meredith Lyne Hensley Williams, who survives.

Also surviving are the mother of his children, Leisa P. Riddle of Elkton; two sons, Tyler Williams of Elkton and Jordan Williams of Elkton; a daughter, Elizabeth Williams of Elkton; and two brothers, Edward Williams Jr. of Elkton and Philip L. Williams of Harrisonburg.

The family received friends Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with Pastor Travis Hensley officiating.

Burial followed the funeral service and was at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.

Charles J. Kerstetter


Charles John “Johnny” Kerstetter, 75, of Harrisonburg, passed away Jan. 14, 2017.

He was born April 16, 1941, in Belgian Congo, and was a son of the late Robert Clayton and Ann Grant Kerstetter, who were missionaries under African Inland mission.
There, he attended Rethy Academy.

Coming to the U.S., he attended Delaware County Christian School and received his bachelor of science degree at Eastern Mennonite University with further studies in marine biology.
He taught science at Page County High School and in Newport News.

After moving in 1978 to Sarasota, where he resided for 37 years, he worked as a teacher and mechanic among other employments.
Hemoved back to Harrisonburg in 2015.

He enjoyed nature photography, reading, hiking, camping and fishing.

On Dec. 21, 1968, he married the former Marleen Rohrer, who survives.

Also surviving are two children, Kara Martin of Singers Glen and Jonathan Kerstetter of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Margery Perry of Venice, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at 2 p.m., at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 546 W. Mosby Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22801, with Buress McComb officiating.

Mary E. Rose


Mary Ellen Rose, 72, of Shenandoah, passed away Jan. 23, 2017, at her home.

She was a daughter of the late Clyde and Hazel Jacob Monn.

She was born in Gettysburg, Pa. on Sept. 4, 1944.

She had the experience of living in various areas of the country, including in North Carolina, where she worked in the poultry industry prior to moving to Virginia.

She and her husband moved from southwestern Virginia in Dickenson County and settled in the Valley and lived in the Land of Shenandoah ever since.

She enjoyed her angel statues, watching soap operas and daytime programming and spending time with her dogs.

Surviving is her husband of 30 years, Robert “ Jimmy” Rose, who she married on Sept. 21, 1986.

Also surviving are her daughter, Effie Rose Cox of Elkton; a brother, Donnie Monn of Florida; a sister, Rosalie Steffy of Morganton, N.C.; five grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

A memorial gathering was held at the family home on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017.

Herbert E. Kite Sr.


Herbert Earl Kite Sr., 87, of Elkton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017.

He was born May 1, 1929, and was a son of the late Ernest Lebrick and Ruby Alice Cook Kite.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, P. Pauline Kite; and his second wife, Doris Elaine Frazier Kite.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was stationed in Germany.

He worked for Snyder’s Plumbing and Heating for more than 30 years and retired from Valley Mall.

He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292.

He is survived by his sons, Ricky Kite of Elkton and Herbert E. Kite Jr. of Elkton; two sisters, Sara Meadows of Elkton and Margaret Frazier of Shenandoah; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A graveside funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Elk Run Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. David Wade officiating.

Friends were received at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton or will be received at the home of his son, Ricky, at any time.

Paul B. Foster


Paul Bible Foster, 93, of Rockingham, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 5, 1924, in Botetourt County, a son of Earle and Thelma Bible Foster.

He graduated from Bridgewater College in 1947. He later earned his master of edcuation degree from the University of Virginia.

His career was in education, serving the Roanoke City Public Schools as teacher, principal and general administrator for 36 years.

On April 21, 1944, he married Janet W. Evers, who died Nov. 26, 2016.

One of his passions was music and he enjoyed singing in and directing church choirs in two Churches of the Brethren, as well as serving as soloist for many weddings, funerals and other occasions.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife and was an avid golfer.

He served on many church boards and committees and as Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann of Midlothian and Kaye of McGaheysville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Bridgewater Church of the Brethren at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, with the Rev. Jeffery Carr, the Rev. Chris Zepp and the Rev. Robert E. Alley officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Arlene E. Ramey


Arlene Eliza Ramey, 85, of Luray, passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, at Avante in Harrisonburg.

She was born Aug. 8, 1931, in Virginia, and was a daughter of the late Frank Monroe Funkhouser and Rose Frances Whetzel Funkhouser.

On June 11, 1950, she married Joseph Edward Cook, who died Feb. 10, 1962.

Her second husband, Amos Leo Ramey, whom she married Oct. 17, 1976, died March 1, 1993.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna Sibert of Harrisonburg; two sons, Lonnie Wayne Cook of Luray and Michael Edward Cook of Shenandoah; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was conducted Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Bradley Funeral Home by the Rev. R. Nicholas Eichelberger.

Burial was in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.
