Paul E. Simmons

Paul Edwin Simmons, 76, of Elkton, passed away Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at his home.

He was born March 3, 1941, in Brandywine, W.Va.

His wife, Eva Rae King Simmons, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughters, Della Cable of Massanutten and Sharon Beck and Deana Jones, both of Elkton; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with pastors Sam Sponaugle and Wayne Taylor officiating.

Friends may call at the homes of his daughters at anytime.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Elkton Church of God Building Fund, P.O. Box 123, Elkton, VA 22827.

Jason R. Garrison

Jason Robert Garrison, 48, of Shenandoah, passed away Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, in Harrisonburg.

He was born Nov. 10, 1968, in Harrisonburg, and was a son of Audrey Lee Shifflett Garrison of Shenandoah and the late Henry Clay Garrison.

He was a graduate of Spotswood High School and attended community college for several years.

He owned and operated Industrial Solutions for a number of years before retiring.

He was a dog breeder and enjoyed hunting, fishing on the Shenandoah River, traveling and playing tennis.

He was a certified scuba diver.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Janice Garrison; a son, Justin Garrison of Elkton; a daughter, Jessica Garrison of Marlinton, W.Va.; and a brother, Johnny Garrison of McGaheysville.

Pastor Danny Herring conducted a graveside service Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton.

The family received friends Saturday evening at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

Hobert B. Cressel

Hobert Beuford Cressel, 82, of Elkton, passed away Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at his home.

He was born June 23, 1935 in Wythe, Va., and was a son of the late Bernard Beverly and Lily Bane Stowers Cressel.

On Sept. 30, 1977, he married Alice Faye McCauley, who passed away Oct. 30, 2008.

He is survived by two sons, Charles Wesley ”Chuck” Cressel of Front Royal and Steve B. Cressel of Eden, N.C.; three daughters, Linda Cressel Doyle of Esmont, Carolyn Cressel Hurt of Elkton and Teresa Kay Lam of Elkton; siblings, Hazel Archambault of Front Royal and Donna Lanham of Rural Retreat; 17 grandchildren, including two special grandsons, Jeremy and Jared Hurt; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Pastor Josh Shifflett will conduct a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Linda B. Ellis

Linda Benner Ellis, 75, of McGaheysville, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, after a long fight with cancer.

She was born April 3, 1942, in Arlington, to the late Helen and Willis Benner.

She grew up with her three siblings in Harrisonburg and received a bachelor of science in psychology with a minor in biology from Mary Washington College in 1962.

She settled in Roanoke to raise her family. Later, she moved back to her hometown and worked in the education department at James Madison University.

She had many creative talents and was a great cook. She made the best pies ever. One of her favorite projects was designing and building her home in Massanutten.

Very special to her were times spent vacationing with family at the beach.

She is survived by three children, Elizabeth Kathryn Elis, Frank (Chip) Ellis and Jennifer Ellis Logan; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna Black; and a brother, Hal Benner.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at Broadway Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Joan Wilson officiating. A private burial will be held at Solitude Cemetery, Buckingham.

The family will receive friends at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg on Friday, Aug. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Patrick M. Hughes

Patrick Morris Hughes, 42, of Waynesboro, passed away Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

He was born in Roanoke, on April 30, 1975, and was a son of Peggy (Morris) Hughes of Staunton and the late Linwood Jack Hughes Sr.

He worked for UPS and was a member of Grottoes Church of the Brethren.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Lisa Meek of Crimora.

A graveside service was conducted Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at Edgewood Cemetery in Grottoes with Pastor Mark Wingfield officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church, 901 Shenandoah Ave., Waynesboro, VA 22980.

Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes was entrusted with arrangements.
