Perry M.Shifflett


Perry Mason Shifflett, 86, of Charlottesville and formerly of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at the Hospice House in Charlottesville.

He was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Rockingham County, and was a son of the late William Taft Shifflett and Julia Morris Shifflett and George Shifflett.

He grew up in Elkton and retired from ConAgra, where he was employed for 32 years.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bluegrass music and attended the Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Charlottesville.

On Oct. 2, 1989, he married Betty Wood Shifflett, who survives.

He is also survived by four sons, Perry Shifflett Jr., Tony Shifflett and Greg Shifflett, all of Crozet, and Mike Shifflett of Charlottesville; a daughter, Bonnie Thacker of Crozet; two stepsons, James Hughes of Greenville and Steven Hughes of Charlottesville; two brothers, William Shifflett and Wilfred Shifflett; three sisters, Betty Shifflett of Elkton, Beatrice Williams of Elkton and Frances Moubray of McGaheysville; stepbrothers, Charlie Shifflett of Maryland and Joseph Shifflett of Grottoes; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family received friends Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

A graveside service followed at Elk Run Cemetery with Pastors Chris Fitzwater and Jimmy Kite officiating.

Linda E. Hensley


Linda Ellen Hensley, 88, of Elkton, passed away Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at Sentara RMH Health Center.

She was born March 23, 1929, in Rockingham County, and was a daughter of the late Allen and Lillian Gertie Lam.

On Dec. 25, 1950, she married Marshall Roxie Hensley, who preceded her in death on June 26, 2007.

She is survived by two sons, Lowell R. Hensley and S. Brent Hensley, both of Elkton; a brother, Beverly Lam; and sisters, Evelyn Hammer, Francis Davis and Nancy Lamb; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with Pastor Wayne Wright and Pastor Carter Dean officiating.

Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The casket will be closed at her request.

Friends may visit the home of Brent Hensley at any time.

Lloyd D. Cubbage


Lloyd Douglas Cubbage 73, of Stanley, passed away Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, in Stanley.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Bradley Funeral Home in Luray, where the funeral service will follow visitation.

Arrangements are by Bradley Funeral Home in Luray.



Charles W. Cubbage


Charles William Cubbage, 81, of Stanley, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at Winchester Medical Center.

Visitation was held Saturday, Oct. 21, at Calvary Independent Brethren Church, where the funeral service was held Sunday, Oct. 22.

Burial was at the Cubbage Family Cemetery in Stanley.

Arrangements were by Bradley Funeral Home in Luray.



Jeffrey C. Butler


Jeffrey Cornell Butler, 61, of Elkton, passed away Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at his home.

He was born Oct. 26, 1955, in Harrisonburg, to the late Fred White and Mary Rosalie Butler Wise.He was raised by the late Phillip and Emma “Sis” Brown Butler.

He was a 1974 graduate of Elkton High School, a member of the Saint Paul United Methodist Church, an avid photographer and sang in the Elkton Community Male Chorus.

He was a member of the Merck Rod and Gun Club and retired from Merck after 36 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Rebecca Wright Butler; a son, Chris Wright of Ohio; three daughters, Tai Wright of Greenbelt, Md., Christina Wright of Harrisonburg and Nikita Wright of Elkton; six grandchildren raised by him, John and Renita Wright, both of Harrisonburg, and Zikien, Zavaya, Zykia and Zamiya Wright, all of Elkton; two brothers, Myron Butler of Elkton and Stacey Wise of South Carolina; and two great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with the Rev. Michael Turner officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday, from 6 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Saturday.

Loretta D. Grimsley


Loretta Darlene Grimsley, 62, of Shenandoah, passed away Oct. 16, 2017.

She was born Sept. 11, 1955, in Shenandoah, and was a daughter of the late Clarence Edward Lucas Sr. and Mildred Darlene Campbell Lucas.

She had been employed with Sunnyside Retirement Community for more than 30 years and enjoyed her nursing career.

She also enjoyed reading and going to the beach.

On Sept. 15, 2007, she married Dannie Lynn Grimsley, who survives.

She is also survived by a son, Michael Eppard of Texas; a daughter, Kristin M. Eppard of Elkton; a stepdaughter, Angela McDaniel of Shenandoah; a stepson, Daniel Grimsley of Shenandoah; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a great-grandson; two brothers, Clarence Lucas Jr. of Fishersville and Steven Lucas of Elkton; and a sister, Jackie Dovel of Elkton.

The family received friends Friday, Oct. 20, at the Lindsey-Kyger Funeral Home in Shenandoah.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 21, at the funeral home with Minister Jack Campbell officiating.

Burial was in Sam Comer Cemetery.
