Bessie L. Wright

Bessie Lee Wright, 77, of Shenandoah, died on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at Avante in Harrisonburg.

Ms. Wright was born on Jan. 30, 1938, in Page County and was a daughter of the late Thomas Leo Wright and Mary Catherine Wright of Shenandoah.

She is survived by four children, Linda Sue Harlow of Shenandoah, Michelle Renee Hensley of Harrisonburg, Tina Marie Bolyard of McGaheysville, and Brandon Leon Wright of Elkton; five brothers, Billy, Bobby, Buddy, Benny and Bruce Wright; five sisters, Betty Hensley, Bonnie Smith, Brenda Wright, Becky Turner and Beverly Shifflett; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bryant Wright.

A private service was held with Kyger Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Samantha S. Waters

Samantha Sue Waters, 30, of Luray, died on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016.

She was born on March 1, 1985, in Woodstock and was a daughter of Susan Ann Fox Knight of Luray and the late Elmer Samuel Knight.

Mrs. Waters was a member of the Mount Carmel Regular Baptist Church.

On Feb. 1, 2007, she married Ervin Leroy Waters Jr., who survives.

Surviving in addition to her mother and her husband are two daughters, Serenity Faith Downey and Shaylah Hope Downey, both of Luray; four sisters, Melissa Breeden of Stanley, and Lorie Ann Richards, Kimberly Jo High and Jody Lynn Green, all of Luray; and two brothers, Samuel David Knight of Luray, and Anthony Lynn Knight of Stanley.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, at Mount Carmel Regular Baptist Church by Pastor Mike Nichols. Burial will be in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.

Katherine Abbott

Katherine Abbott, 67, of Luray, died on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016.

She was born on Sept. 26, 1948, in Luray and was a daughter of the late Elmer Jewell Sr. and Virginia Geer Jewell.

Ms. Abbott is survived by a daughter, Jamey Christina Abbott of Rileyville; three sons, Gregory Abbott of Stanley, and Aaron Wade Kiblinger and Jeff Abbott, both of Luray; two brothers, Cletus and Elmer Jewell Jr., both of Luray; two sisters, Judy Bradt and JoAnne Petefish, both of Luray; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, at the Bradley Funeral Home by Pastor Frank Painter.

Steve W. Davis

Steve Wendell Davis, 52, of Luray, died on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, at Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Davis was born on Sept. 8, 1963, in Virginia and was a son of the late Winfred K. Davis and Dorothy Tobin Davis.

He is survived by two sons, Joshua and Steven Wendell Davis, both of Luray; a daughter, Erin Smith of Arizona; his companion, Melanie Smith of Luray; and two grandchildren.

Services are planned for a later date.

Lawson C. Fawley

Lawson Clinton Fawley, 92, of Mathias, W.Va., died on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at Timberview Crossings in Timberville.

He was born on March 6, 1923, in Dovesville and was a son of the late Howard Wilson Winfield and Roxie May Fawley.

Mr. Fawley was an Army veteran, having served during World War II. He survived Pearl Harbor and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a member of Lost City Baptist Church. He was a quality control inspector at Walker Manufacturing for 18 years before retiring and had also worked at Neff Lumber Mills as a lumber inspector.

On March 31, 1967, he married the former Cleta A. Foltz, who died on July 14, 2009.

He is survived by seven sons, James Fawley of Walls, Miss., David Fawley of Moorefield, W.Va., Steven Lewis of Harrisonburg, Kenneth Fawley and Samuel Wilkins, both of Broadway, Benjamin Wilkins of Toms Brook, and Thomas Wilkins of New Market; three daughters, Debra Crawford of New Market, Anita Cave of Stanley, and Pamela Smith of Broadway; one brother, Curtis Fawley of New Port Richey, Fla.; three sisters, Lina Ritchie of Broadway, Katie Kline of Harrisonburg, and Mary Lee Campbell of Timberville; 31 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one sister, Romana Fawley; and one brother, Herman Fawley.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway by the Rev. Delmar Shoemaker. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Mathias, with military rites by the Dayton American Legion Post 27.

The family was to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at the funeral home.
