Regina M. Meadows


Regina Mae Meadows, 80, of Elkton, died on Monday, March 7, 2016.

She was born on April 5, 1935, in Page County and was a daughter of the late Elmer Isaac Lam and Mamie Meadows Lam.



Mrs. Meadows attended Jollett Bible Mission Church and was a homemaker.

On June 9, 1951, she married Robert Eugene Meadows, who died in 2006.

She is survived by a son, Maynard Meadows of Elkton; two daughters, Karen Lam and Beverly Dean, both of Elkton; four sisters, Esther Meadows, Geneva Oliver, Bernice Meadows and Elva St. Clair; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Leslie Meadows; two siblings, Ruth Lam and Alvin Lam; and a grandson.

A funeral service was conducted on Thursday, March 10, at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton by Pastor Rick Robertson and Pastor John Crawford. Burial was in the Elk Run Cemetery.

Marcus B. Miller


Marcus Blaine Miller, 53, of Luray, died on Monday, March 14, 2016.

He was born on Jan. 16, 1963, in Washington, D.C., and was a son of Rose Marie Davis Miller of Fredericksburg and the late William E. Miller.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Laura Ball and Sharon Price, both of Spotsylvania; a son, Tony Ball of Spotsylvania; three sisters, Marlena Marie Painter of Luray, Tammy Rose Miller of Fredericksburg, and Samantha Miller of Stanley; five brothers, Timothy and Cody Miller, both of Stanley, Michael Crowell of Fredericksburg, and David and William Miller; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Matthew Miller; a daughter, Christa Miller; and a sister, Laura June Miller.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, at the Fellowship Baptist Church by the Rev. Donnie Sherfey. Burial will be in the Leaksville Cemetery in Luray.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the service, from 2-3 p.m.



Betty Lou Grim


Betty Lou Grim, 65, of Stanley, formerly of New Market, died on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Page Memorial Hospital.

She was born on April 1, 1950, and was a daughter of the late Clinton Bowman Sr. and Lucille Lucas Bowman.

On Jan. 15, 1968, she married John E. Grim Sr., who died on April 10, 2008.

She is survived by a son, John E. Grim Jr. of Mount Jackson; two daughters, Teresa Sandusky of Stanley, and Jennifer Shirkey of Timberville; five brothers, Kenny, Leonard, Ralph, John and Clinton Bowman Jr.; three sisters, Alma Whetzel, Lisa Gray and Doris Wisman; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, March 9, at Wood’s Chapel Independent Bible Church in New Market. Burial was in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in New Market.


Services were handled by Theis Funeral Chapel in New Market.



Paul J. Hilliards


Paul Junior Hilliards, 75, of Luray, died on Monday, March 14, 2016, at Page Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 28, 1940, in West Virginia and was a son of the late Paul Edward Hilliards and Virgie Rhinehart Hilliards.

Mr. Hilliards worked in maintenance for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for 28 years.

On March 24, 1958, he married Lula Jean Bolen Hilliards, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Dianna Lynne Waters and April Dawn Dovel, both of Luray; a brother, Levi Hilliards of Timberville; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Eddie Hilliards; and a sister, Betty Alger.

A funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, March 16, at the Bradley Funeral Home. Burial was in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.



Laura E. Washington


Laura Elizabeth Washington, 89, of Luray, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at MontVue Nursing Home.

She was born on Aug. 16, 1926, in Charleston, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Mack Newman and Sara Bell Newman.

On July 21, 1945, she married George Washington, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by a sister, Sarah Nabors of Charles Town, W.Va.; two grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mildred Louise Cubbage.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, at St. John Baptist Church by Pastor Archie Webster.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m.



Diana L. Buracker


Diana Lynn Buracker, 58, of Stanley, died on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Page Memorial Hospital.

Ms. Buracker was born on April 10, 1957, in Rochester, N.Y., and was a daughter of the late Raymond C. Lockwood and Susan Clingerman Lockwood.

She is survived by two daughters, Tiffany Via of Stanley, and Jennifer Ammacher of Hendersonville, N.C.; a son, Larry Alfred Buracker of Stanley; a sister, Nancy McGilvery of Waynesboro; a brother, Raymond Lockwood Jr. of Waynesboro; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Clark Buracker; and a sister, Mary Lockwood.

The family received friends on Thursday, March 10, at the Bradley Funeral Home.



Hans F. Steinhauser


Hans Franz Steinhauser, 92, of Luray, died on Friday, March 11, 2016, at Whispering Pines.

He was born on July 26, 1923, and was a son of the late Rudolph Steinhauser and Helen Kadelick Steinhauser.

His wife, Doris Violet Steinhauser, preceded him in death.

He is survived by two daughters, Susan Rocke of Rileyville, and Jeanne Studtmann of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ivor Steinhauser; and a sister, Lisa Steltenpohl.

Services are planned for a later date.



Charles J. Orebaugh


Charles Joseph Orebaugh, 75, of Stanley, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2016.

He was born on Dec. 13, 1940, in Timberville and was a son of the late Robert Orebaugh and Goldie Strawderman Orebaugh.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Allene Dallas Orebaugh, are two daughters, Misty Hilbert of Chambersburg, Pa., and Kristy Helsley of Woodstock; a son, Shawn Orebaugh of Timberville; a sister, Juanita Sites of Linville; two brothers, Guy Orebaugh of Timberville, and Harold Orebaugh of Lacey Spring; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Wimer.

A funeral service was conducted on Saturday, March 12, at the Bradley Funeral Home by the Rev. Teddy Cave and the Rev. Todd Thomas. Burial was in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Luray.



Boyd H. Housden


Boyd Harmon Housden, 60, of Luray, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2016.

Mr. Housden was born on May 6, 1955, in Luray and was a son of the late June Jackson Housden and Kathleen Mary Buracker Housden.

He is survived by a brother, Jeffrey Housden of Front Royal. He was preceded in death by a sister, Debora H. Housden.

Services are planned for a later date.



Jo Ann Gray 




Jo Ann Gray, 69, of Stanley, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Winchester Medical Center.



She was born on June 18, 1946, in Staunton.

Mrs. Gray was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Pine Grove.

On March 20, 1965, she married Randell Gray, who survives.

Arrangements are being handled by the Bradley Funeral Home.



Anna M. McDaniel


Anna Mae McDaniel, 90, of Luray, died on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Whispering Pines.



She was born on Jan. 12, 1926, in Stanley and was a daughter of the late Marvin Good and Lula Belle Cubbage Good.

Mrs. McDaniel was a member of the Bethlehem Christian Church in Stanley.

On Nov. 10, 1943, she married Steward McDaniel Sr., who died on June 27, 2012.

She is survived by two sons, Stewart McDaniel Jr. of Leland, N.C., and Alan L. McDaniel of Stanley; a sister, Lena Beaghan of Shenandoah; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Steven L. McDaniel; four brothers, Lawrence, Kirby, Clifton and Huey Good; and five sisters, Florine Good, Margaret Good, Beulah Kite, Elizabeth Page and Betty Campbell.

A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, at the Bradley Funeral Home by Pastor Timothy Catlett. Burial was in the Grove Hill United Methodist Cemetery in Shenandoah.



Betty J. Smelser


Betty Jane Smelser, 79, of Stanley, died on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at MontVue Nursing Home.

She was born on March 31, 1936, in Luray and was a daughter of the late Elmer Foster and Geneva Cubbage Foster.

On Nov. 29, 1956, she married Ray Junior Smelser, who died on Dec. 24, 2013.

She is survived by a sister, Alleta Beahm of Luray. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Elizabeth Richards, Marjorie Ruth Alger and Shelly Mayes; and a brother, Robert Foster.

Services are planned for a later date.



Nelson K. Ray


Nelson “Music Man” Kermit Ray, 79, of 1739 Lucas Hollow Rd., Stanley, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at MontVue Nursing Home.

He was born on March 10, 1937, in Orange and was a son of the late Charles Calvin Ray and Beulah Margaret Huffman Ray.

Nelson worked at Shen Valley Meat Packers for more than 20 years and was a member of the New Life Gospel Church in Shenandoah. He shared his musical talents playing a variety of instruments with several bluegrass bands.

On June 7, 1958, he married Virginia Louise Cubbage Ray, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Carolyn Sue Lucas and husband Vincent of Stanley; a son, Nelson Daryl Ray and wife Sherry of Luray; two brothers, Kenneth Ray of Timberville, and William Ray of Weyers Cave; two sisters, Barbara Braden of Waynesboro, and Margaret Edge of Harrisonburg; two grandsons, Mathew Lucas of Stanley, and Caleb Ray of Luray; three granddaughters, Amy Dovel and husband Chad, Vanessa Ray and Stephanie Blauser, all of Luray; and two great-grandsons, Kaden Ace Ray and Michael Scott Stroupe Jr. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Hanson Ray, and Melvin and Burnard Shifflett; and three sisters, Marie Frazier, Dorothy Conley and Evelyn Reedy.

A funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, March 15, at the New Life Gospel Church by the Rev. Tony Cubbage. Burial was in the Leake’s Chapel Cemetery in Stanley.
