Delores J. Breeden


Delores Jean “Lois” Stanley Breeden, 76, of Elkton, died on Thursday, March 24, 2016, at her home.

She was born on May 20, 1939, in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Ernest and Myrtle Tappy Stanley.



Mrs. Breeden was a member of the Assembly of God in Shenandoah. After 30 years, she retired from Wrangler as a seamstress.



On March 2, 1959, she married Owen Raymond Breeden, who died in 2011.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen Breeden of Elkton; six brothers, David, William, Larry and Roy Dale Stanley, all of Stanley, Charles Ray Stanley of Luray, and Donald Lee Stanley of Shenandoah; two sisters, Barbara Lansberry and Carolyn Huffman, both of Luray; a niece and nephew, who were raised in the family home, Judy Taylor and Roy Lee Stanley of Stanley; one grandchild; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a grandson.



A funeral service was conducted on Saturday, March 26, at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton by Pastor Carter Dean. Burial was in the Elk Run Cemetery.

Mary A. Harris


Mary Ann Harris, 70, of Luray, died on Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Page Memorial Hospital.

Ms. Harris was born on May 7, 1945, in Luray and was a daughter of the late John David Brubaker and Hilda Virginia Weaver Brubaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Joyce D. Fox, Martha A. Fox and Tammy S. Beers, all of Luray; a son, Michael D. Fox of Abingdon; seven sisters, Judy Ann Dodson of Woodstock, Geraldine May Dalton of Charles Town, W.Va., Ada May Strickler of Elkton, Nellie Marie Leggett of Gallatin, Tenn., Bonnie Hitt of Culpeper, Elizabeth Caroline Hunsucker of Richmond, and Betty Jean Paul of Athens, Tenn.; four brothers, Cecil Junior Brubaker of Stanley, James Amos Brubaker of Richmond, George David Brubaker of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Donnie Lee Brubaker of Penn Laird; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Lynwood Fox; and a brother, Jesse Lee Brubaker.

A funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, March 29, at the Stanley New Hope Pentecostal Church by Pastor Randy Miller.



Jo Ann Gray 




Jo Ann Gray, 69, of Stanley, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Winchester Medical Center.



She was born on June 18, 1946, in Staunton and was a daughter of the late William J. Alley and Virginia Gouse Alley.

Mrs. Gray was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Pine Grove.

On March 20, 1965, she married Randell E. Gray Sr., who survives.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four sons, Harold, Gordon B., William W. and Randell E. Gray Jr., all of Stanley; a sister, Carla Gonzalez Gouse; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Gray.

A funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, March 29, at St. George’s Episcopal Church. Burial was in the Graves Chapel Cemetery in Stanley.

Carolyn S. Ferrell


Carolyn Sue Ferrell, 66, of Shenandoah, died on Friday, March 25, 2016, in Charlottesville.



She was born on Dec. 26, 1949, in Page County and was a daughter of the late Luther Dovel and Gloria Painter Dovel.



Mrs. Ferrell grew up in Page County and attended Mount Lebanon Christian Church. She worked for Great Eastern Resorts for the past 11 years.



On Sept. 24, 1966, she married Ralph V. Ferrell, who survives.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Mike Ferrell of Shenandoah; a brother, Alan W. Dovel of Stanley; a sister, Dixie Mowbray of Elkton; and two godsons. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony and Bobby Dovel.



A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, at the Mount Lebanon Christian Church near Shenandoah by the Rev. Guy Lee Ferrell and Pastor Carter Dean. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Patricia A. Dean


Patricia Ann Dean, 73, of Harrisonburg, formerly of Elkton, died on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

She was born on June 20, 1942, in McGaheysville and was a daughter of the late Herbert Wilson Beasley and Sarah Ann Shifflett Beasley.



Mrs. Dean was an inspector at Blue Bell-Wrangler before retiring.



On June 20, 1957, she married Junious O. Dean, who survives.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four sons, Monte Dean of Shenandoah, Marty and Mickey Dean, both of Harrisonburg, and Max Dean of Broadway; a brother, Grover Cleveland Beasley of Elkton; and seven grandchildren.
 She was preceded in death by three brothers, Junior Lee “Buster,” Nathan “Nat” and James Elmer Beasley; and two sisters, Irene Spitzer and Letha Lam.



A memorial service was conducted on Monday, March 28, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton by Pastor John Bradshaw and Pastor Jim Tongue. Burial was private at Dean Mountain Cemetery.

Walter E. Bennett Jr.


Walter Eddy Bennett Jr., 79, of Luray, died on Thursday, March 24, 2016.

He was born on Oct. 31, 1936, in New Bedford, Mass., and was a son of the late Walter E. Bennett and Elsie Marvel Bennett.

On Aug. 6, 1960, he married Jeanette Eloise “Peggy” Long Bennett, who died on Oct. 16, 2000.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Bennett.

Services are planned for a later date.



Paul W. Rodgers


Paul Wayne Rodgers, 62, of Shenandoah, died on Monday, March 28, 2016, at his home.

He was born on Jan. 28, 1954, in Harrisonburg and was a son of the late Winfred Rodgers and Evelyn Lucille Rankin Rodgers.

Mr. Rodgers was an avid hunter and fisherman. He did maintenance and construction work for the CIA at Langley Air Force Base and was a member of the Valley Church in Harrisonburg.

On April 10, 1976, he married Darlene Freeze Rodgers, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Tessa Rodgers and Tiara Rodgers Smelser, both of Harrisonburg; a brother, James Rodgers of Shenandoah; a sister, Jane Myers; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya Renee Rodgers.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton by Pastor Larry Rising and Brad Shifflett. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Shenandoah.

The family was to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, at the funeral home.

Mary C. Presgraves


Mary Catherine Presgraves, 50, of 815 Bank St., Shenandoah, died on Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

She was born on April 8, 1965, in Luray and was a daughter of Janice Somers Breeden of Luray and the late Matthew Breeden.

Surviving in addition to her mother are a daughter, Jennifer L. Hooke of Timberville; a son, Jason Presgraves of Luray; two sisters, Cindy Lyles of Luray, and Karen Smelser of Stanley; a brother, Mitchell Breeden of Rileyville; her companion, Nathan T. Comer of Shenandoah; two stepsons, Austin and William Comer, both of Elkton; and a granddaughter, Anna Faith Presgraves of Luray.

Private services are planned.



Ellen O. Good


Ellen “Sue” Odell Good, 85, died after a brief struggle with pneumonia on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, in Millington, Tenn.

She was born on April 17, 1930, in Rileyville, Va., to Ernest and Avis Wood.

In 1947, she married James Good, of Shenandoah, Va., and together they raised their children, Sue Ellen and Jay.

Sue worked as a bank teller, then loan officer, for 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James.

She is survived by her daughter Sue Ellen, son Jay, granddaughter Amy, grandson Adam, and great-granddaughters Alanna and Adissen.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 16 Amiss Ave, Luray, Va. A reception will immediately follow the service.
