Ruth M. Good


Ruth Myra Good, 78, of Luray, died on Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, at Avante Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Harrisonburg.

She was born on Nov. 25, 1937, in Luray and was a daughter of the late Fred A. and Betty J. Henry.

Mrs. Good worked at Luray Caverns and at K-Mart in Front Royal for many years before retiring.

Surviving in addition to her husband, John Good, are a daughter, Vickie Winegord; and a grandson. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Amos, Warren, Paul and Harold Henry; and a sister, Eva Mae Bywaters.

Burial will be private at Mount Zion Church in Luray.

Reuben T. Fahnestock


Reuben Talmage Fahnestock, 96, of Luray, died on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at Timberview Crossing Assisted Living.

He was born on Sept. 15, 1919, in Winchester.

Mr. Fahnestock worked in the maintenance department for Luray Caverns Corporation for 50 years. He was a member of the Mount Zion Church of the Brethren.

On March 20, 1948, he married Lola Mae Cave Fahnestock, who died on Nov. 10, 2002.

He is survived by a brother, David Fahnestock of Winchester; three sisters, Mary F. Lowery and Dorothy Carper, both of Winchester, and Betty F. Hardesty of Front Royal; and his caregiver, Amy Ristola of Luray. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Daniel, Randolph, Paul, Robert and Ray Fahnestock; and three sisters, Frances Luttrell, Margaret Childs and Isabella Yeakley.

A funeral service was conducted on Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Mount Zion Church of the Brethren by Jack Haddock. Burial was in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Luray.



Rinaca memorial


A celebration of life service for Maxine Dofflemyer Rinaca will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, at Fields United Methodist Church in Shenandoah by the Rev. Dr. Larry Aikens Jr.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday prior to the service, from 11-11:30 a.m.

Rachel I. Ramey


Rachel Irene Ramey, 77, of Luray, died on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at MontVue Nursing Home.

She was born on July 9, 1939, in Luray and was a daughter of the late Huerbert Sheldon Alger and Myrtle Irene Housden Alger.

Mrs. Ramey retired from the Luray Textile with more than 30 years of service. She was a member of the Luray Seventh-day Adventist Church.

On Jan. 6, 2000, she married Jack Ramey, who survives.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Bridgett Benhoff and Peggy Hesley, both of Luray; four sisters, Dorothy Louise Gray and Evelyn Harvey, both of Stanley, Marie Comer of Shenandoah, and Jane Nichols of Luray; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, David “Crockett,” Elwood, Richard and Woodrow Alger.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Luray by Pastor Sam N. Millen.

Arley E. Hilliards


Arley Edward Hilliards, 80, of Stanley, died on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016.

He was born on Aug. 20, 1935, in Luray and was a son of the late Eddie W. Hilliards and Edith Mae Painter Hilliards.

On Oct. 7, 1961, he married Mary Virginia Jones Hilliards, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Edith Gray of Stanley, and Mildred Shenk of Luray; two sons, Terry Bradley of Luray, and Billy Bradley of Mount Crawford; a stepdaughter, Mary Porter of Luray; a stepson, Roger Breeden of Stanley; two brothers, Carson Hilliards of Shenandoah, and Charles Hilliards of Stanley; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Maudie Elizabeth Tappy, Virginia Freeze, Doris G. Hilliards, June Elizabeth Hilliards and Ruby Judd; and two brothers, Jack “Buddy” and Isaac Shirley “Jay Bird” Gene Hilliards.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Hilliards Family Cemetery in Stanley by Evangelist Earl E. Painter.

Cecelia D. Jewell


Cecelia Diane Jewell, 70, of Luray, died on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016.

She was born on Dec. 21, 1945, in Virginia and was a daughter of the late Bruce Elon Cave and Ethel Elizabeth Presgraves Cave.

Ms. Jewell retired as a machine operator in 2011 from EMCO in Luray.

She is survived by two daughters, Angela Michele Cook of Luray, and Shelly Renee McCaughan and husband Steven McCaughan, also of Luray; five grandchildren, Meaghan A. Leake and husband Jeremy S. Leake, Garrett C. Cook, K. Logan McCaughan, Braden F. Cook and Seth A. McCaughan, all of Luray; and one great-grandson, Brycen C. Leake of Luray.

A funeral service was conducted on Monday, Aug. 8, at the Bradley Funeral Home by Evangelist Doug Gochenour. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Luray.

Logan G. Miranda


Logan Gavin Miranda, age 36 days, of Havelock, N.C., passed away at Vidant Medical Center on July 27, 2016.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Bradley Funeral Home in Luray.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles Venable; and maternal great-grandmother, Bonnie Buracker.

He is survived by his parents, Yasiviel Miranda and Eboni Venable Miranda of Havelock, N.C., formerly of Winchester; older brother, Jace Jedediah Miranda; maternal grandparents, Lori and Kevin Lee; paternal grandparents, Carol Jean Verdecchia and Eliecer Mojica Miranda; maternal great-grandparents, Cleopatra Lee and Hubert Jefferson Burrill; paternal great-grandparents, Josefa del Carmen Ayala de Verdecchia and Benita Maria Mojica; aunt, Kalicia Lee; uncles, Yostin Miranda and Eliecer Miranda; cousins, Kylyn and Cataleya; and godparents, Tori Onzura and Robert Verdecchia.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations in honor of Logan Miranda be made to the family.
