Laura B. Zirkle


Laura Belle Zirkle, 72, of Elkton, died on Friday, March 24, 2017, at her home.

She was born on March 26, 1944, in Page County and was a daughter of the late Virgil and Elizabeth Carrier Kite.

Mrs. Zirkle was an avid seamstress and quilter and had worked at Wrangler in Elkton, State Farm Insurance Co. and was a homemaker. She was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and had previously served as church secretary.

On Sept. 2, 1968, she married John David Zirkle, who survives.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, David Zirkle of Elkton; two brothers, Vincent Kite of Shenandoah, and Dwight Kite of Elkton; and a sister, Janet Hudson of Shenandoah.

A funeral service was conducted on Sunday, March 26, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, near Grove Hill, by Pastor Phyllis Diamond. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Connie F. Knowles


Connie Faye Guyer Knowles, 74, of Harrisonburg, died on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

She was born on Jan. 22, 1943, in Harrisonburg and was a daughter of the late Marion and Dorothy Deviers Guyer.



Mrs. Knowles was a member of the Ridgeway Mennonite Church.

On Sept. 29, 2000, she married Richard Knowles, who survives.



Surviving in addition to her husband are two brothers, Ed Guyer of Mount Crawford, and Wayne Guyer of Dayton; two sisters, Linda Thomas of Shenandoah, and Nancy Connellee of Grottoes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by one brother and a sister.



A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg by Pastor Jim Harrison. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.


The family was to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, at the funeral home.

Toni Gray


Toni Gray, 75, of Luray, died on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at MontVue Nursing Home.

She was born on March 2, 1942, in Georgetown, Md., and was a daughter of the late Kenneth Franklin Gray and Charlotte McKnight Gray.

She is survived by a caregiver, Rusty Connery of Luray. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Franklin Gray II; and a sister, Joyce Estelle Gray.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, at the Luray Seventh-day Adventist Church by Pastor Sam N. Millen.



Ermon J. Good Jr.




Ermon Jackson “Buddy” Good Jr., 89, of Luray, died on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Page Memorial Hospital.

He was born on March 28, 1927, in Stanley and was a son of the late Ermon Jackson Good and Emma Susan Good.

Mr. Good was a veteran of the United States Army and had worked as an inspector for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

On Sept. 4, 1982, he married Elsie Mae Woodward Good, who died on July 29, 2009.

He is survived by two sons, Jackson W. and Kenny R. Good, both of Luray; a stepdaughter, Sandra Grove of Morehead City, N.C.; a brother, Gerald Good of Stanley; and a sister, Judy Rickard of Rileyville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Gray; a brother, John Paul Good; and three sisters, Martha Seal, Mary Bailey and Marie Anderson.

A graveside service was conducted on Monday, March 27, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Luray by Pastor Mike Nichols, with military honors by the American Legion in Luray.

Lillian B. Runion


Lillian Belle Price Knight Runion, 78, of Orkney Springs, died on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at her home following an illness of several months.

She was born on Oct. 23, 1938, in Page County and was a daughter of the late Edward Leo Price and Daisy Florence Price.



Mrs. Runion was a homemaker and a member of the Shenandoah Valley Banjo and Fiddle Club and the Newport Church of the Brethren, near Shenandoah.

Surviving in addition her husband, Gary Runion, are five sons, Bobby, Gary and Jeffrey Knight, all of Luray, Randall Knight of Orkney Springs, and Jason Knight of New Market; a daughter, Theresa Perrell of Gardners, Pa.; a sister, DeAnn Comer of Stanley; 19 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Price; and a sister, Jean Elizabeth Wise.



A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, at the Newport Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Duane Painter and the Rev. Kent Bennett.

Lucretia R. Brown


Lucretia Rosellen Brown, 87, a resident of Luray, Virginia, and formerly of Savage, Maryland, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Royal Haven Assisted Living, Front Royal, Va.

A memorial service and burial for Mrs. Brown will be conducted at a later date in Garrett County, Md.

Mrs. Brown was born in Swanton, Md., on September 10, 1929, a daughter of the late James H. and Twila DeBerry Fries.

She was the wife of the late James R. Brown Sr. and worked for Westinghouse and Aero-Geo-Astro Corp., manufacturing circuit boards. She enjoyed family gatherings, country music and traveling.

Survivors include her children, Mary F. Mellin and James R. Brown Jr., both of Luray, Va., and Dawn L. Brown of Maryland; her grandchildren, Robert D. Moreland, Georgia R. Brown, Brandon Brown, Kyle Sutherland and Abbie C. Plaugher; her great-grandchildren, Hanna R. Moreland and Donald R. Moreland; her sister, Thais Rose Sanders of West Virginia; and a brother, James Fries of Maryland.

Sharon M. Bard


Sharon Marie Bard, 74, of Luray, died on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Alexandria Nova Hospital in Alexandria.

Mrs. Bard was born on February 16, 1943, in Mount Jackson, daughter of the late Ralph and Kathryn Hottinger Buchanan.

She was a 1960 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School. She was a member of Page Valley Baptist Church in Luray.

Mrs. Bard was married April 11, 1964, to Michael W. Bard Sr., who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Michael W. Bard Jr. of Stephens City; a foster son, Jerry David Williams of Stafford; four sisters, Judy Funkhouser of Mount Jackson, Sandy Westfall of Quicksburg, Linda Crenshaw of Charlottesville, and Dorothy Frye of Woodstock; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Page Valley Baptist Church, 4567 U.S. Hwy. 340 North, Luray, Va. 22835, with the Rev. Gary Nicholson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Page Valley Baptist Church, 4567 U.S. Hwy. 340 N., Luray, Va. 22835; or to an animal shelter of your choice in memory of Sharon.
