Amo L. Jenkins


Amo Lee Jenkins, 81, of Stanley, died on Monday, July 31, 2017.

She was born on April 27, 1936, in Stickleyville and was a daughter of the late Willy Perkins and Lula Mae Million Perkins.

Mrs. Jenkins had worked as a custodian for Fairfax County schools. She was a member of the Bethlehem Christian Church in Stanley.

On July 16, 1981, she married Herbert Green, who died in 1992. On May 29, 1999, she married Luther Freeman Jenkins, who survives.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, George David Pearson, Michael Pearson and William Pearson; two daughters, Vicky Combs and Susan Clark; two sisters, Alice Louise Young and Linda Joann Perkins; a brother, Franklin Ross Perkins; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, at the Bethlehem Christian Church by Pastor Andy Seastrom. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Stanley.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 3, at the Bradley Funeral Home.

Mabel J. Morris


Mabel Jones “Jean” Morris, 84, of Shenandoah, died on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Life Care in New Market.

She was born on Nov. 21, 1932, in Shenandoah and was a daughter of the late Lewis Floyd Jones and Mabel Breeden Jones.

Mrs. Jones attended St. Peter Lutheran Church, where she worked in the nursery. She was employed at Blue Bell, Merck, Dan’s Steak House and the Country Inn.

On Oct. 29, 1966, she married Roy Howard Morris, who died on June 6, 2017.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Short and Tammy Yager, both of Shenandoah; two sons, Eddie Morris of Stanley, and Randy Morris of Shenandoah; a brother, Robert Jones of Harrisonburg; a sister, Frances Hisey of Elkton; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A private burial was held at Rest Haven Cemetery in Shenandoah.

The family received friends on Monday, July 31, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

Randy T. Berry


Randy Thomas Berry, 58, of Stanley, died on Thursday, July 27, 2017.

He was born on Oct. 22, 1958, in Luray and was a son of the late Thomas Newton Berry and Rose Marie Aleshire Kaminski.

Mr. Berry worked as a carpenter for Knighting Lucas Construction.

He is survived by two brothers, Danny and Donnie Berry, both of Stanley; a half brother, Windle Wayne Buracker of Luray; and a half sister, Connie Lou Somers of Luray. He was preceded in death by a half sister, Peggy Buracker; and three half brothers, Walter William, Junior James and Leonard Frank Buracker.

A funeral service was conducted on Sunday, July 30, at the Bradley Funeral Home by the Rev. Pete Campbell. Burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Stanley.

Anna M. Gray


Anna May Gray, 66, of Staunton, died on Wednesday, July 26, 2017.

She was born on March 25, 1951, in Luray and was a daughter of the late Morris Alfred Buracker and Catherine Louise Buracker.

She is survived by a son, James Gray of Luray; four sisters, Bonnie Buracker, Barbara Jean Knupp and Betty Lou Turner, all of Staunton, and Mary Catherine Burner of Luray; three brothers, Larry Wayne Buracker of Bentonville, Robert Alfred Buracker of Madison, and Terry Fitzgerald Buracker of Luray; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by a sister, JoAnn Nuckols.

A funeral service was conducted on Friday, July 28, at the Bradley Funeral Home by the Rev. James Kite. Burial was in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Luray.



Junior A. Hedrick


Junior Alfred Hedrick, 87, of Harrisonburg, died on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.



He was born on Aug. 13, 1929, in Upper Tract, W.Va., and was a son of the late Jacob A. Hedrick and Mary “Mollie” Rexrode Hedrick. 



Mr. Hedrick was a member of the Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren and retired from Walker Manufacturing in 1991 as a setup machine operator.



Surviving in addition to his wife of 61 years, Maxine Sipe Hedrick, are one son, Dave Hedrick of Linville; one daughter, Tonya Knight of Dayton; two sisters, Elva Ratliff of Harrisonburg, and Juanita Miller of Luray; a brother, Vernon Hedrick of Harrisonburg; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by three sisters, Martha Alt, Hadie Hartman and Mary Alexander; and two brothers, Pete and Jacob Condie Hedrick.

A funeral service was conducted on Thursday, July 27, at the Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren by Pastor Dan King. Burial was in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Daniel R. Wing


Daniel Ray Wing, 57, of Indiana, died on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, Ind., after a battle with cancer.

He was born on July 26, 1959, in Frederick County and was a son of Oren Lavern Wing of Lebanon, Ind., and the late Martha Elaine “Marty” Judd Wing.

Mr. Wing attended Heritage Christian School and graduated in the second class of Lawrence North High School in 1978, both in Indianapolis. He was employed in construction for a short time, then in the painting business and in home financing. He worked in auto sales in North Carolina, Florida and Indiana, until retiring due to his health.

Surviving in addition to his father are two brothers, Timothy L. Wing of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Samuel J. Wing of Richmond; a sister, Rebekah J. Brown of Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was conducted on Monday, July 24, at Myers Mortuary in Lebanon. Burial was in Mount Tabor Cemetery in Fayette, Ind.

Timothy D. Gray


Timothy Dale Gray, 57, of Luray, died on Friday, July 28, 2017.

He was born on Nov. 5, 1959, in Luray and was a son of the late Mahlon Howard Gray and Katherine Bradley Gray.

Mr. Gray worked for Warren County schools as an electrician for 11 years.

On March 10, 1979, he married Brenda Kay Nease Gray, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Timothy Dale Gray Jr. of Luray; a daughter, Amy Jo Huffman of Stanley; five brothers, Harvey T. and Randolph D. Gray, both of Luray, and Kenneth H., Paskel D. and Robert Lee Gray, all of Stanley; five sisters, Kim L. Hilliards, Bonnie S. Richards and Tina Aleshire, all of Stanley, and Ellen M. Pierce and JoAnn Dinges, both of Luray; and six grandchildren.

A funeral service was conducted on Monday, July 31, at the Lighthouse Gospel Church by Evangelist Earl E. Painter. Burial was in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery.

Janet K. Robinson


Janet Marie Koontz Robinson, age 85, of Los Angeles, California, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 19, 2017, at Long Beach Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 25,1932 in Stanley, Virginia, and was the daughter of Jacob Koontz and Pauline Petefish Koontz Campbell, both deceased.

Janet graduated from Luray High School in 1949. After graduation, she attended business school in Washington, D.C.

In 1950, Janet married Milton Carroll and moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she raised her family and worked for General Motors Acceptance Corporation. In 1968, Janet moved to Los Angeles, California, married Edsel “Bob” Robinson, and continued working for GMAC until her retirement.

Janet later met her longtime friend and companion, Robert Brown. Janet and Bob loved to travel throughout Europe and across the United States, visiting family and friends when doing so. She often expressed how much she loved visiting Paris and Scotland.

She is survived by three sons, Doug Carroll and wife Terry of Flowery Branch, Georgia, Rick Carroll of Los Angeles, and David Carroll and wife Denise of Bethlehem, Georgia; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence “Pete” Campbell and wife Susan, and Mike Campbell, and a sister, Sharon Janney and husband Robert, all of Luray; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jacob Daniel Koontz Jr.

Janet was laid to rest on July 28, 2017, in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Cypress, California.
