Jason R. Garrison

Jason Robert Garrison, 48, of Shenandoah, died on Friday, Aug. 11, 2017.

He was born on Nov. 10, 1968, in Harrisonburg and was a son of Audrey Lee Shifflett Garrison of Shenandoah and the late Henry Clay Garrison.

Mr. Garrison was a graduate of Spotswood High School and attended community college for several years. He owned and operated Industrial Solutions for a number of years before retiring. He was a dog breeder, a certified Scuba diver and an avid hunter.

Surviving in addition to his mother and his wife, Janice Garrison, are a son, Justin Garrison of Elkton; a daughter, Jessica Garrison of Marlinton, W.Va.; a brother, Johnny Garrison of McGaheysville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Tammy Marie Garrison.

A graveside service was conducted on Sunday, Aug. 13, at the Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton by Pastor Danny Herring.

John Hession Jr.

John Michael Hession Jr., 78, of Rileyville, died on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at the Life Care Center of New Market.

He was born on Oct. 16, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pa., and was a son of the late John Michael Hession and Catherine Ruth Calvert Hession.

Mr. Hession worked for R.C. Theater for 18 years as a vice president. He was a Navy veteran, having served in Vietnam.

He is survived by two sons, Stephen Michael Hession of Luray, and Michael Hession of Washington; two stepbrothers, Peter Prince of Minnesota, and Charles Prince of Maryland; and two stepsisters, Dorsey Leonard and Faith Prince, both of Maryland. He was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick C. Hession.

Services are planned for a later date.

Ethelda A. Welch

Ethelda Ann Welch, 83, of Luray, died on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at Page Memorial Hospital.

She was born on Nov. 7, 1933, in Maryland and was a daughter of the late John Askren and Elcye Eckart Askren.

On March 22, 1952, she married Charles Clifford Welch, who died on Oct. 21, 2010.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Dalzell of Luray, and Lucinda Lee Blythe of Winterville, Ga.; a son, Charles Clifford Welch III of Stanley; a stepdaughter, Charlotte Louise Carroll of Ocean City, Md.; a stepson, William Wayne Welch of Colora, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the Mount Zion Church of the Brethren by Pastor Gary Major. Burial was in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Luray.

Rebecca I. Gray

Rebecca Inez Gray, 74, of Stanley, died on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at Winchester Medical Center.

She was born on Feb. 14, 1943, in Luray and was a daughter of the late George Leonard Lancaster and Thora Perry Lancaster.

On April 18, 1959, she married Shirley Obrien “Mickey” Gray, who died on Aug. 26, 1989.

She is survived by a daughter, Sherri Beahm of Stanley; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas L. Lancaster; and a sister, Lenora Lancaster.

A memorial service was conducted on Saturday, Aug. 12, at St. George Episcopal Church in Pine Grove by the Rev. Grace Cangiaosi. Burial was in the Graves Chapel Cemetery in Stanley.

Leon G. Sours

Leon G. Sours died on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017.
Arrangements are pending at the Bradley Funeral Home in Luray.

Frances M. Hammer

Frances May Hammer, 95, of 2341 U.S. Hwy. 340 N., Luray, died on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at Champion Assisted Living in Wilmington, N.C.

She was born on Nov. 18, 1921, in Luray and was a daughter of the late Ernest Jackson Montgomery and Katie Faye Zirkle Montgomery.

Mrs. Hammer worked for AT&T for 39 years as a service advisor. She enjoyed riding horses and playing bridge, long walks and tending to her garden. She was a member of the Luray United Methodist Church, Luray Garden Club and the National Judges Council of Garden Clubs.

On June 5, 1942, she married James Anderson Hammer, who died on July 10, 2014.

She is survived by a daughter, Julie Ann Jadick of Wilmington, N.C.; a sister, Evelyn Wright of Florida; and two granddaughters, Madelyn Jadick and Paige Jadick, both of Wilmington, N.C.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Alexander and Mildred M. Sours; and a brother, Ernest J. Montgomery Jr.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Luray United Methodist Church by the Rev. Erich Bennett. Burial will be in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.

The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m.

Ivan L. Habron

Ivan L. Habron, 84, passed away August 10 , 2017. He was born April 12, 1933, in Fort Valley, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lehman and Isabel Habron; a brother, Everett Habron; and his daughter-in-law, Mary Habron.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruby Williams Habron. They were married December 11, 1954, in Luray, Va.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Bonnie Habron (Mel Lipner) of Monroeville, Pa., and Kathy Habron of Mechanicsville, Va.; two sons, William Habron of Mechanicsville, Va., and Richard Habron (Suzanne) of Georgetown, Ind.; a sister, Elva Hockman of Maurertown, Va.; and six grandchildren, Rachel, Matthew, Amber, Michael, Zachary and Thomas.

Ivan was a farmer for 20 years and a Burroughs Field engineer for 20 years as well. He enjoyed woodworking, the outdoors, hunting and computers. He was a member of the Elmont Ruritan Club and the Messiah Lutheran Church.

A funeral service will take place at 12 noon on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at Woody Funeral Home, Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23116. The family will receive friends one hour prior.

The committal service will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017, at Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery, 1224 U.S. Highway 211 East, Luray, Va. 22835.
