Loretta D. Grimsley


Loretta Darlene Grimsley, 62, of Shenandoah, died on Monday, Oct. 16, 2017.

She was born on Sept. 11, 1955, in Shenandoah and was a daughter of the late Clarence Edward Lucas Sr. and Mildred Darlene Campbell Lucas.

Mrs. Grimsley had been employed with Sunnyside Retirement Community for more than 30 years and was an avid reader.

On Sept. 15, 2007, she married Dannie Lynn Grimsley, who survives.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Michael Eppard of Texas; a daughter, Kristin M. Eppard of Elkton; a stepdaughter, Angela McDaniel of Shenandoah; a stepson, Daniel Grimsley of Shenandoah; two brothers, Clarence Lucas Jr. of Fishersville, and Steven Lucas of Elkton; a sister, Jackie Dovel of Elkton; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Lam.

A funeral service was conducted on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Lindsey-Kyger Funeral Home in Shenandoah by Pastor Jack Campbell. Burial was in the Sam Comer Cemetery.

Charles W. Cubbage


Charles William Cubbage, 81, of Stanley, died onWednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at Winchester Medical Center.

He was born on Jan. 10, 1936, in Stanley and was a son of the late Charles Dewey Cubbage and Laura Lucas Cubbage.

Mr. Cubbage was a member of the Luray Moose Lodge 1413.

On April 6, 1984, he married Alice Mae Cubbage, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, C.J. Cubage of Stanley. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eddie S. Cubbage.

A funeral service was conducted on Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Calvary Independent Brethren Church in Stanley by Pastor Charles Turner and Pastor Randy Miller. Burial was in the Cubbage Family Cemetery in Stanley.



Lowell D. Sampsell


Lowell Delane Sampsell, 80, of Luray, died on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at Page Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Dec. 27, 1936, in Luray and was a son of the late William Jennings Sampsell and Rose Marie Comer Sampsell.

His wife, Ruth Lee Holmes Sampsell, preceded him in death.

He is survived by a sister, Ajeta Rose Keller of Luray. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester Allen and Thomas Jennings Sampsell.

A funeral service was conducted on Monday, Oct. 23, at the Bradley Funeral Home by the Rev. Laura Stratton. Burial was in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.



Lloyd D. Cubbage


Lloyd Douglas Cubbage, 73, of Stanley, died on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017.

He was born on April 20, 1944, in Stanley and was a son of the late Jasper Cubbage and Virginia Good Cubbage.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Doris Elaine Housden Cubbage, are two daughters, Lynn Martinez and Birdena Short, both of Stanley; two sons, J.D. and Jerry Wayne Cubbage, both of Stanley; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Cubbage.

A memorial service was conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the Bradley Funeral Home by Pastor Carter Dean, with visitation held one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department, Stanley, Va. 22851.



Denny L. Dennis


Denny Lee Dennis, 51, of Luray, died on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017.

He was born on March 14, 1966, in Loudoun County and was a son of Paulette Tobin Dennis of Mount Jackson and the late Douglas Dennis Sr.

Surviving in addition to his mother and his wife, Therese Barlow-Dennis, are a son, Brendon Lineberry of Hawaii; a sister, Buffie Shannon Rodriguez of Spotsylvania; and three brothers, Kevin Scott Dennis of Mount Jackson, Christopher Wayne Dennis of Winchester, and Douglas Dennis Jr. of Stephens City.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Bradley Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.



James C. Comer


James Craig Comer, 62, of Luray, died on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at his home.

He was born on July 1, 1955, in Page County and was a son of the late Lewis and Myrtle Cave Comer.

Mr. Comer was a graduate of Luray High School and a member of the Luray Moose Lodge and the New Market Eagles.

He is survived by his wife, Robin Sibert Comer.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Luray Moose Lodge from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5.

Arrangements were handled by Theis Funeral Chapel in New Market.
