Stella M. Bailey


Stella Minnick Bailey, 90, of Mt. Jackson, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016 at the Winchester Medical Center.


Mrs. Bailey was born Oct. 21, 1925 in Mt. Jackson, daughter of the late Robert William and Edith Marie Ryman Hansberger.


She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Mt. Jackson.


She was a member of the New Market Eagles and the Mt. Jackson Moose Lodge.


She is survived by a daughter, Dottie Hamilton and husband Kenny of Strasburg; two sons, Daryle "Billy" Minnick of Stafford, Va. and William M. "Mike" Minnick and wife Judy of Locust Grove, Va.; seven grandchildren, Donny Hamilton, Daryle Minnick III, Sherri Byrnes, Terri Wood, Carrie Minnick, Robert Minnick and Andrew Minnick; 14 great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.


She was preceded in death by a grandson, Davy Hamilton.


The funeral was Thursday, Jan. 21, at 1 p.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home in Mt. Jackson, Rev. Paul Campbell officiated. Burial will follow in the Mt. Jackson Cemetery.


Pallbearers were Donny Hamilton, Robbie Minnick, Andrew Minnick, Daryle Minnick III, Anthony Minnick, Joedy Sheets and Brian Hepler.


The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Raymond T. Banks


Raymond Thomas Banks, 90, of Woodstock and formerly of New Market, passed away Friday, Jan 15, 2016 at Skyline Terrace Nursing Home in Woodstock.


He was born Jan. 28, 1925 in Mount Jackson and was a son of the late Raymond A. Myrtle Tucker Banks.


Mr. Banks is survived by two daughters, Mary Wilkins of District Heights, Md. and Ramona Corley (Kenroy) of Winchester; a son, Raymond Corley (Michele) of Martinsburg, WV; a stepson, Roger Corley of Winchester; eight grandchildren, Mark, Terrell, Raven, Darien, Kiersten, Danielle, Jeremy and Jaron; a great grandchild, Evandon; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.


In addition to his parents, Mr. Banks was predeceased by a brother, James Green.


A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan 30, 2016 at Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock. Date changed due to impending weather.


At his request, Mr. Banks has been cremated.


Theis Funeral Chapel in New Market is assisting the Banks family with all arrangements.




William B. Bell


William B. "Billy" Bell, 91, of Abingdon, Virginia, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016 at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.


A graveside service was held on Monday, Jan. 18 in Panorama Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m. conducted by The Rev. Dr. R. Mark Jordon.


Mr. Bell was born July 30, 1924 in Roanoke, son of Bennett W. and Claudine Coffman Bell.


He was married to the late Carrie "Dolly" Bell.


He was a retired purchasing agent for American Viscose/Avtex Fibers. He was a Warren County High School graduate and attended Bluefield College.


He was a World War II veteran serving in the U. S. Army.


Surviving are two sons William B. "Benny" Bell, III and David Lee Bell; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.


In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Bell was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard N. "Dick" Bell and James Robert "Bobby" Bell.

Ralph L. Bennett Sr.


Ralph Leon Bennett Sr., 70, of Browntown, passed away in his home on Friday, Jan. 15, 2016.


A funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Ramsey and Pastor Jeff Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Panorama Memorial Gardens.


He was born on June 30, 1945, son of the late Mildred Mae and Fred Jackson Bennett.


He was married to Dorothy Ann Bennett on May 27, 1966. They were married 49 years.


Surviving with his wife, Dorothy Ann Bennett, are his daughter, Veronica Ann Berg and her husband Pete; his son, Ralph Leon Bennett Jr.; his granddaughters, Brandi Nashell Bennett, Kailynn Nicole Bennett, and Ana Valerie Bennett; his grandson, Shawn T. Berg; and his sister, Helen Airhart.


He is also survived by his stepsister, Mary Ann Rodgers, and his two stepbrothers, Jimmy and Charlie Bennett.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Aubrey "Buck" Bennett and Harrison "Musky" Bennett; and his sisters, Mary Ann Bennett and Nancy Aleshire.


The family received friends prior to the service at 1 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.

Hildred K. Dinges


Hildred Kay Dinges, 68, of Mt. Jackson, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Dinges was born Nov. 29, 1947 in Ohio, daughter of the late Doyle Chester and Emma Jean Frantz Luckey.

Mrs. Dinges was a member of the Ladies of the Mt. Jackson Moose Lodge Chapter 1403.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Kemper Dinges.

Also surviving are four daughters, Angela J. Cooke of Fredericksburg, Kathleen L. Jackson of Martinsburg, WVa., Meghann Lam of Harrisonburg and Julie Dellinger of of Mt. Jackson; a son Stephen Jason Ritenour of Winchester; a sister, Angela Joanne Rowland of Md.; five grandchildren; and one great grandson.

Services will be private.



Judy A. Dove


Judy Ann Dove, 67, of Luray, died on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1948, in Jerome and was a daughter of Gwendolyn “Barb” Miller of Basye and the late Norman Miller Sr.

Mrs. Dove worked for Emco door company for 10 years.

Her husband, Beverly W. Dove, died on Feb. 8, 1974.

Surviving in addition to her mother are a son, Bradley Dove of Stanley; a daughter, Yvonne Buracker of Stanley; three brothers, Brian, John W. and Norman Miller Jr., all of Basye, three sisters, Diane Dellinger and Patricia Miller, both of Basye, and Wanda Layman of West Virginia; two stepdaughters, Mindy Richards of Shenandoah, and Charlotte Price of Stanley; eight grandchildren; and her companion, Kenneth F. Price of Luray.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.



Robert E. Funkhouser Sr.


Robert Edwin Funkhouser Sr. died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 at his home.


Mr. Funkhouser was born Sept. 27, 1930 in Basye, son of the late Nevin Charles and Gladys Estelle Moomaw Funkhouser.


He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.


He was owner and operator of the Community Store for 63 years in Basye.


He was a charter member of the West Shenandoah Ruritan Club.
He was a member of Waterbrook Brethren Church in Edinburg.


He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Anne Lamma Funkhouser, whom he married Sept. 20, 1954.


He is also survived by a daughter, Sandra Turner and husband Larry of Mt. Jackson; a son, Robert E. Funkhouser Jr. and wife Bobbie of Mt. Jackson; a brother, Frank Funkhouser of Woodstock; three grandchildren, Sara Voigt and husband David, Jill Martin and husband Nathan and Rebekah Funkhouser; and three great grandchildren, Ty, Bella and Gavin.


He was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert (Robby) E. Funkhouser III. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis and three brothers, Harold, Bill and Jim.


The funeral service was Friday, Jan. 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Mt. Jackson with Rev. James Corbitt whom officiated. Burial will follow at the Mt. Jackson Cemetery with Military Honors by the National Guard and Muhlenberg Post #199 American Legion Woodstock.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Lonas, Henry O. Barb, Dave Cline Sr., Dale Cline, Richard Barb, James A. Thomas III, Robert L. Cline and Danny Wetzel.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Voigt and Nathan Martin.


The family received friends Thursday, Jan. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Priscilla R. Hart


Priscilla Roberta "Bobbie" Hart, 82, of Woodstock, Va., died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.


A graveside service for Mrs. Hart was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan.18, 2016 at Riverview Cemetery with Rev. Sonya Williams-Giersch who officiated.


The family will received friends at Stover Funeral Home on Monday from 1 p.m.-1:45 p.m.


Mrs. Hart was born on July 18, 1933 in Hawkinstown, Va., a daughter of the late Lillian Richardson Clark Bennet and Walvet Clark.


Mrs. Hart has been employed in several retail positions with her most recent as a cashier at Shaffer's Bar-B-Que and Deli in Woodstock, Va.


She was an avid crafter and loved needlework. She enjoyed watching her "stories" and Washington Redskins football. She was also a former officer of the Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary.


Mrs. Hart is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, James F. Hart of Woodstock, Va.; her children, Donna Boshears and husband Neal of Georgetown, SC, Willy Harmon and wife Cathy of Grapevine, Tx. and Lynn Burns and husband Joe of Glen Burnie, Md.; grandchildren, Michael Justice and wife Lisa of Georgetown, SC, Jackie George and wife Nora of Frederick, MD, Kristina Strauss and husband Steve of Pasadena, Md., Clint Harmon and wife Hilary and Wayne "Boomer" Harmon, all of Grapevine, Tx.


She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Ryan, Rivers, Jake, Bryce and Joe. They will all miss their Gigi.

Carolyn J. Helsley


Carolyn J. Kibler Helsley, 65, of Edinburg, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016 unexpectedly.
Services were Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock. Burial followed in Columbia Furnace Cemetery. Pastor Randy Whetzel officiated.


Carolyn was born Feb. 17, 1950 in Shenandoah County. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Annie Estelle Marshall Kibler.


She was employed by Edinburg Aileen for many years, Wampler-Longacre in Timberville, Gores Meat Processing and George's in Edinburg.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene "JimBuck" Helsley; three brothers, Charlie, Jimmy, and Herbie; a nephew, Brian "Bucky" Anderson; and a brother-in-law, Kenny Anderson.


She is survived by two daughters, Victoria Burkett and husband Jeremy of Edinburg, and Crystal Funkhouser and husband Wayne of South Carolina; a son, Christopher Helsley and wife Angie of Mt. Jackson; a sister, Margaret Anderson of Broadway; niece, Jenny; nephew, Andy; eight grandchildren, Hillary, Cheyenne, Jacob, Sam, Matthew, Melissa, Bethany, and Sara; and one great grandson, Braxton.


Pallbearers were Andy Anderson, James Barb, Larry Gochenour, Jimmy Trail, Mike Barb, Wesley Dellinger, Brock Barb and Jason Clark.


The family received friends Monday, Jan. 18, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thelma W. Laughlin


Due to the projected weekend forecasting of inclement winter weather the services for Mrs. Thelma Williams Laughlin, who passed away Dec. 31, 2015, have been rescheduled.

Dennis L. Lockhart Jr.


Dennis Larry Lockhart Jr., 48, of Woodstock, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock.


The funeral service was held Monday Jan. 18, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock. Pastor Dottie Holden and Deacon Ed Reed officiated. Burial will follow in Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.


Mr. Lockhart was born Oct. 17, 1967 in Warren County.


He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Merle Lockhart; grandmother, Leslie Cornell; and grandparents, Elmer and Ruby Smith.


He is survived by his wife, Rita Ann Perrine Lockhart; mother and stepfather, Bobbi and Randy Dellinger of Maurertown; father, Dennis Lockhart Sr. of Woodstock; daughter, Kellie Lockhart of Woodstock; son, Tommy Lockhart of Strasburg; two brothers, Tim Lockhart and wife Trisha of Richmond and Bryan Lockhart of Edinburg; grandmother, Gladys Miller of Woodstock; two grandchildren, Khyler and Kaison Cook; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Pallbearers were Javon Cook, Jermaine (CJ) Stafford, Jacob Lockhart, Joshua Lockhart, Jeff Reed, JR King and Ed Reed.


Honorary pallbearers were Khyler and Kaison Cook, Nathan and Andrew Shoemaker, Aden Vigil, and Bryan and Tim Lockhart.

Frances V. Schwolow


Frances Virginia Keller Schwolow, 91, of Greenfield Senior Living, Strasburg, passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016 at Greenfield.


A memorial gathering for Frances Virginia Keller Schwolow will be held at a later date.


Mrs. Schwolow was born Oct. 10, 1924 in Toms Brook, a daughter of the late Frederick Philip and Nellie Ross Booth Keller.


She was retired from the Federal Government.


She was the wife of the late Albert Reynolds Schwolow.


Surviving are two daughters, Karen Lee Schwolow of Costa Mesa, California and Melissa Keller Riesco of Fairfax; a grandson, Mark Albert Riesco; and two sisters, Joyce Dykes of Woodstock and Anne Frank of Staunton.

Allen D. Seekford


Allen D. Seekford, 75, formerly of Mt. Jackson, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016 at Envoy of Winchester.


Mr. Seekford was born Oct. 19, 1940 in New Market, son of the late G. D. "John" and Catherine Silvious Seekford.


He was a member of Walker's Chapel Church of the Brethren in Mt. Jackson.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Anna Newcomb Seekford.


He is survived by a brother, G. David Seekford and wife Louise of Star Tannery

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald E. "Peck" Seekford, Sr.


A graveside service was Saturday Jan. 16 2016, at 11 a.m. in Mt. Jackson Cemetery with Rev. Cecil Haycock who officiated.


There will be no public viewing.

Winifred J. Stephens


Winifred Jane Stephens,'Winnie", 85 of Woodstock, Virginia passed away on Monday, Jan. 11, 2016 at Skyline Terrace Nursing Home in Woodstock.


Winnie was born on June 27, 1930 in Bunker Hill, West Virginia, to the late John Edward and Edna Catherine Shipe Walters.


She is survived by one daughter, Judy Clem and husband, Scott of Woodstock; four grandchildren, Brian Gochenour, John Stephens, Fred Stephens and Kristen Stephens; six great-grandchildren, Hillary Powell, Savannah Gochenour, Sophia Stephens, Phineas Stephens, Violet Stephens and Jacob Stephens; and three sisters, Joyce Lewis, Hilda Light and Phyllis Gregor.


In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Garland “Bud” Dabney Stephens, whom she married on Dec. 24, 1949; three sons, Franklin Alvin Stephens, Robert Lewis Stephens and Martin James Stephens; four sisters, Mary Butts, Margaret Richmond, Helen Hartman, and Louise Greenfield; and two brothers, Samuel Walters and Henry Walters.


A private graveside service will be conducted by Pastor Brian Duncan.

Arthur J. White Jr.


Arthur James White Jr., of Woodstock, Va. passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 17, 2016.


He was born in Mineola, NY on Feb. 26, 1934.


Art served in the United States army in Korea before graduating from Bryan College in Tennessee and Kansas State teachers college for his Master's Degree.


He was married to Faye (Peters) White in 1956 and were married for 59 years.


Art served in many positions in the Shenandoah County School system and in later life continued his concern for the spiritual wellbeing of others through his involvement with Shenandoah Community Fellowship.


Art is survived by his wife Faye; his son Arthur (Donica); daughter, Valerie Crabill (Mike), daughter, Loretta Hall (Jeff); son, Steve (Marsha); sister, Gladys Fischer (John), sister, Marie Seip; four grandchildren, Kevin Sibert and wife, Laura, Keren Biehl and husband, Andrew, and Nathan White and Kristine White; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.


In lieu of flowers friends are requested to make donations to Shenandoah Community Fellowship or the Wounded Warrior Project.


A celebration of life was held Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Shenandoah Community Fellowship. The family received friends from 10-11 a.m.

Doris J. Will


Doris Jean Will, 82, of Woodstock and formerly of the Arlington area, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 at the Winchester Medical Center.


Mrs. Will was born Oct. 30, 1933 in Edinburg, daughter of the late Raymond R. and Carrie Louise Airhart Miller.


She was married Nov. 10, 1951 to James Elwood Will, who preceded her in death Dec. 13, 2014.


Mrs. Will is survived by a daughter, Donna Viscardi and her husband Frank of Warrenton; a son, Jeffrey Will of Woodstock; and two grandchildren, Mitchell Smith of Woodstock and Shelbi Will of Hawaii.


A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home in Mt. Jackson with the Rev. Matthew A. Diehl officiating.


The family will receive friends one half hour before and after the service at the funeral home.
