Bill M. Church Sr.

Bill Marvin Church Sr., 84, of North Wilkesboro, passed away Friday, Aug. 12, 2016.

He was born Jan. 18, 1932 in Wilkes County to Lawrence and Hazel Woody Church.

Mr. Church was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Rebecca Ellen Lynch Church.
Surviving are his wife, Danelle Meyerhoffer Church; son, Billy Church, Jr. of Front Royal, Virginia; daughter, Debra Church of Middletown, Virginia; sister, Betty Arnold of Florida; step-daughter, Jennifer C. Lentz of Wilkes County; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Graveside service with military honors will be held 2 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at Branch Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery in Three Churches, West Virginia. Flowers can be sent to McKee Funeral Home, 115 E. Birch Ln., Romney, West Virginia 26757.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Elizabeth D. Cooke

Elizabeth Roesel Daley Cooke, age 41, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

She was born Feb. 15, 1975 in Waynesboro, Virginia.

Elizabeth graduated from Strasburg High School, class of ’93 and graduated Cum Laude from Shepard College, Shepardstown, West Virginia.

She loved Mickey Mouse and was an avid sports fan, who loved the Chicago Bears, Clemson Tigers and the Baltimore Orioles.

Surviving are her husband, Harold Cooke, Jr.; her parents, Margaret Mabe Daley and James Richard Daley; daughter, Tiffany Cooke; two brothers, Richard Daley and Phillip Daley and Melanie; her nieces and nephews whom she loved, R.J., Noah and Lily and her extended family members, Joseph, Ashlea, Kirsten and Angie.

A funeral service was conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Augsburg Lutheran Church with Rev. Daniel Pugh officiating. Interment followed in Forsyth Memorial Park, Winston-Salem.

Lawrence T. Curry

Lawrence T. Curry, 57, of Winchester, Virginia, was called home on Saturday Aug. 13th at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Virginia.

He was born July 5th, 1959 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of Lawrence "Baba" Curry of Winchester and Arlene Blowe Stephenson of Winchester.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He was employed with Themo Fisher in Middletown, Va., for 28 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory with his mother and father; two sons, Marcus Curry and Lawrence Curry both of Los Angeles, California; his companion, Lori Fleming, of Strasburg; step-son, Nicolas Fleming, of Strasburg; three brothers, Bruce Curry (Michelle) and Lester Curry, both of Winchester and Raymond Curry of Herndon; one granddaughter, Katelyn Curry; stepfather, Dabney Stephenson; and other relatives and friends.

A stepson, Bryan Willard preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Life Service was held 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18th, 2016 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Winchester, with Minister Cheryl Pettus officiating and Rev. Floyd Coats bringing the Eulogy.
Family received friends one hour before service at the church. 
Interment was Thursday August 18th at Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester, Virginia, with Military Honors Afforded by the United States Air Force and the Winchester VFW Post # 2123.

Mary F. Frye

Mary Frances Frye, 84, of Mt. Jackson, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016 at Life Care Center of New Market.

She was born Jan. 15, 1932 in Mt. Jackson, daughter of the late Lester William and Mary Catherine Hawkins Hansberger.

She was employed for 31 years at Blue Bell, Inc. in Mt. Jackson.

She was a member of the Mt. Jackson United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Frye was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Eugene Frye.

Mrs. Frye is survived by a son, Franklin Dale and his wife Elizabeth Baker of Basye; three grandchildren, Jeremy Baker, Jeanie Baker and Chris Lytton; two great grandchildren, Chase Jones and Cambrea Smoot; and a daughter-in-law, Nona Baker of Mt. Jackson.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Gail Frye; a son, Steven Wayne Baker; and five sisters, Reba Allison, Fay Litton, Shirley Miller, Charlotte Dellinger and Jeanette Guess.

A funeral service was held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Mt. Jackson with the Rev. Darwin Edwards officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Jackson Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert Burner, Roger Bowers, Denny Dellinger, Jeremy Baker, Terry Jones and Steve Sager.

The family received friends Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Priscilla S. Goodspeed

Priscilla Selena Goodspeed, 93, of Woodstock passed away Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016 at Greenfield of Woodstock.

She moved to Woodstock in 1983 after retiring as secretary for 25 years at Melpar Corporation in Falls Church.

She was a graduate of Fairfax High School.

She was born Oct. 16, 1922 in Fairfax County, daughter of the late Samuel R. and Helen Jones Riggles.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene of Woodstock.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Butt Goodspeed; and a son, Tony Goodspeed.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Goodspeed, of Front Royal and Linda G. Waldron of Woodstock; a son, Ronald Goodspeed of Front Royal; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11a.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock with Reverend Banks Swanson officiating. 
Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.

Pallbearers will be Carl Street Jr., Don Waldron, Samuel Street, Tony Goodspeed Jr., Jack Jenkins, and Jonathan Pippen.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock and one hour prior to the service Friday.

Pauline D. Kuykendall

Pauline Dove Kuykendall, 92, of Broadway, Va., died Aug. 14, 2016, at Life Care Center of New Market.

She was born April 13, 1924, in Pendleton County, W.Va., to the late Loy W. and Ida Thomas Dove.

Pauline was a homemaker. She loved to cook and bake and was famous for her pies and cinnamon rolls. Her grandchildren were the love of her life.

She was a member of Damascus Church of the Brethren in Bergton.

On Aug. 29, 1942, she married Hays Garfield Kuykendall, who preceded her in death Feb. 11, 1959.

Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Spitzer and husband, Dale, of Broadway and Doris Detamore and husband, Sammy, of Mathias, W.Va.; one brother, Ray Dove of Broadway; one sister, Edna Secrist of Broadway; and grandchildren, Crystal Detamore Rodman and husband, Bill, of Gordonsville, Va., Cheryl L. Detamore and significant other, Jack Babst, of Winona, Kan., Heather Spitzer of Augusta, W.Va., and Daniel Spitzer and wife, Brooke, of Broadway.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Norma Jean Carr, two brothers, Justin Dove and Paul Dove and one sister, Lucille Mongold.

Jerry Shiflet conducted a funeral service 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Grandle Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway. Burial was in the Caplinger Cemetery in Criders.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Grandle Funeral Home.

Lillian Elaine Pangle, age 78, of Winchester died Saturday at Winchester Medical Center.

Herbert Polhemus, 87, of Woodstock, passed away Aug.14, 2016 at his home.

Matthew Stuart “Matt’’ Self, 45, of Winchester, Va. died on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016 in Inwood, WV.

Matt was born on March 15, 1971 in Winchester, Va., a son of the late Loran R. and Margie E. George Self.

He was a 1989 graduate of James Wood High School and a mechanical engineer with Maryland Heating & Air in Gainesville, Va.

He was a motorcycle enthusiast, loved to hunt, play pool and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Surviving is a son, Joshua D. Self of Winchester, Va.; two daughters, Hope D. Self of Winchester, Va., Kyndal M. Self of Strasburg, Va.; a brother, Timothy R. Self of Augusta, WV; three sisters, Phyliss Mineff of Rockford, Il., Sharon Lynn of Berkeley Springs, WV and Sheila Hunt of Capon Bridge, WV and his fiancée, Crystal M. Viands of Winchester, Va..

Family will receive friends at the Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory in Capon Bridge, WV on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. Inurnment will be private.

Warren Keillor Wordsworth, 83, of Strasburg, passed away Aug. 13, 2016 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Woodstock.
