Joyce A. Clem

Joyce Ann Clem, 73, of Woodstock, passed away Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock.

The funeral service was held Thursday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. at Valley Funeral Service in Bowmans Crossing. The Reverend Fred Mauck officiated. Burial followed in St. Luke Cemetery.

Mrs. Clem was born June 26, 1944 in Baltimore, Md., daughter of the late Albert Stanley Jackson and Pauline Thelma Neighoff Jackson.

She was a retired Physician's Assistant at Mountain View in Strasburg.

She is survived by her husband, Charles F. Clem; daughter, Dawn Lee Weinkam and husband Lou Weinkam Jr. of Catonsville, Md.; grandchildren, Gus and wife Oyla, Cortlyn and husband Josh, Dominick, Trey, Luke, Gretchen, Dexter and Vinny; step son, Scott Clem and wife Judy of Woodstock; step grandchildren, Michael Clem and wife Nicole and Brian Gochenour; great grandchildren, Lottie, Maverick and Ryleigh; brother, Albert Jackson of Taneytown, Md.; and sister, Pat Fike of Shepherdstown, WV.

Conley V. Compton Sr.

On Oct. 7, 2017, Conley Van Compton Sr., beloved husband of Mary Evelyn (n. Ridgley) Compton; cherished son of Noah Alvie Compton and Cleo Mary Lee Thomas; loving father of Conley Van Jr., Randy Eugene, Terry Franklin, Robert Lee, Lisa Anne McDonald, Charles Douglas, and Marion Russell; adored sibling to his four brothers and eight sisters; and grandfather to, Michelle, Holly, Erin, Ashley, Jessie, Jason, Katie, TJ, Tyler, Crystal, Lee, Robbie, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Tyler, Rusty, McKenna and Miles, was called home to be with the Lord.

Conley, known affectionately since his youth as Baker, is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and many more relatives and friends.
The number of lives he touched in his long 82 years of life on earth is countless.

Born on Sept. 1, 1935 in Grundy, Va., Baker loved the country life and spent his early years farming. He was a strong, hardworking man and began logging with his father at the early age of 14. 
Later, he changed professions and entered into running heavy machinery, which opened the door for he and Mary to create MEC Trucking and Excavating in 1981. Just as he did in every area of his life, he ran his business with his whole heart and faithfully with the good Lord by his side, until he retired in 2013 at the age of 77.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 12 p.m. at Valley Funeral Service at 14116 S. Middle Road, Edinburg, Va. Pastor Mark Compton officiated. Burial followed in Mt. Jackson Cemetery in Mt. Jackson, Va.

The family received friends Tuesday 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ida M. Embrey

Ida Mae Embrey, 80, of Front Royal, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.

A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home with Pastor Seth Alcorn officiating. Burial will follow in Panorama Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Embrey was born in Bassett on Nov. 1, 1936, the daughter of the late Jesse B. Dowdy Sr. and Mary Ethel Bennett Dowdy.

She was a homemaker and a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She was a graduate of Warren County High School, and she attended Rivermont Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Glynda Bennett of Front Royal and Angelina Taylor of Strasburg; her brother, Dean Dowdy of Blacksburg; her grandchildren, Freddy Bennett, Virginia Bennett, Alice Bennett, Ethel Bennett, Kurtis Taylor, and Krystal DeWalt; and her great grandchildren, James Redmon, Colton Redmon, Caliegh Story, and Zane McCray.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Embrey was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Embrey; and her brother, Jesse B. "Pete" Dowdy Jr.

Donna M. Harris

Donna Marie Harris, of Goodyear, Arizona, passed away Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 at the Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona due to sudden complications while battling a serious illness.

Donna was born in 1958 in Winchester, Virginia to Roy and Nancy Harris.

She graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Quicksburg, Virginia in 1977. Donna then obtained a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Upon graduating in 1981, Donna moved to the Phoenix, Arizona area and pursued a long and distinguished career with the Arizona Department of Corrections. After 22 years of service, Donna retired as a Bureau Administrator in 2004.

Following her retirement from the Arizona Department of Corrections, Donna started her own all natural skin care and home products business called NaturOli Beautiful, LLC in Peoria, Arizona, which still continues to operate in her honor.

Donna is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Clayton Luft of Goodyear, Arizona; her parents, Roy and Nancy Harris of Mount Jackson, Virginia; and her brother, Martin Harris of Great Falls, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held for all friends, family, and loved ones in the Phoenix area on Oct. 14, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the Best Funeral Services, 9380 West Peoria Avenue, Peoria, Arizona 85345.

A second memorial service will be scheduled and noticed for all friends, family, and loved ones in the Mount Jackson, Virginia area at a later date.

Dr. Jacob Haun Jr.

Dr. Jacob "Jake" Haun Jr., 85, of Woodstock, died at his home on Sept. 22, 2017.

The outdoor celebration of Dr. Jake Haun Jr.'s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 in the field (which is handicapped accessible) across from 1141 Alonzaville Road, Woodstock. 
In case of inclement weather, the celebration will be held at St. Luke Brethren Church at 3250 Back Rd., Woodstock.
 Refreshments will be provided, the only thing you need to bring is yourself and memories of Jake.

Lilliard Hilliard

Lilliard “Little Boy” Hilliard, 82, of Stanley, died on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, in New Market.

Visitation was at Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Service were held at Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren on Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at 11 a.m.

Burial was at Leake’s Chapel Cemetery in Stanley.

Services were performed under the direction of Bradley Funeral Home Inc., Luray, VA 22835.

Jeffrey L. Long

Jeffrey L. Long, 56, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017 at the Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Center in Winchester, Virginia.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main St., Front Royal, Virginia with Pastor Doug Lowell officiating. Burial will follow in Panorama Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Long was born on Dec. 7, 1960 in Front Royal to the late Lewis Long and Mamie Racey Long. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Long and sister, Norma Wenger.

He was a graduate of Warren County High School, Class of 1979.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon L. Long of Front Royal; daughter, Angela L. Caudle of Orange, Virginia; three brothers, Robert Long (Margaret) of New Jersey, and Ron Long (Susan) and Rickey Long (Lisa), both of Strasburg, Virgina; two sisters, Phyllis Smith and Kay Fritts, both of Front Royal, three brothers-in-law, Bobby Caudle (Kathy) of Roanoke, Virginia, Dustin Hott (Ashton) of Remington, Virginia and Cheyenne Hott (Veronica) of Missouri; grandson, Shane Caudle of Orange; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Shirley M. Printz

Shirley Ann McIntyre Printz, 60, of Front Royal, Va., passed away on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017.

The family received friends on Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial followed in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Printz was born April 8, 1957 in Warren County, Va. the daughter of Mrs. Mazie Mae Henry McIntyre of Front Royal and the late Thomas A. McIntyre, Sr.

Surviving along with her mother is her husband of 39 years Kent P. Printz of Front Royal; four children, Amber Printz Foster of Strasburg, Andrew Printz of Front Royal, Adam Printz of Alexandria and Ashton Printz of Front Royal; one sister, Janet McIntyre Hill of Front Royal; one brother, T. A. "Mac" McIntyre, Jr. of Front Royal; and two grandchildren that she loved dearly Adiana and Bryson.

Pallbearers were Andrew Printz, Adam Printz, Ashton Printz, Dylan Hill, T.A. "Mac" McIntyre, Jr. and Wayne Smedley.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1833 Plaza Drive, Winchester, VA 22601.

Robert L. Spitler

Robert Lewis Spitler, 74, of New Market, Va., died Oct. 3, 2017 at his residence.

He was born July 10, 1943 in Shenandoah County and was a son of the late Edward and Flora Comer Spitler.

He was a concrete contractor and a member of Reformation Lutheran Church in New Market.

On June 26, 1965 he married the former Trenna Buracker, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Lisa Getz and husband Junie of New Market and Cynthia Parker and husband Bobby of Timberville; three grandchildren, Chassidy Garrett and husband Richard of Timberville, Megan Redd and husband Marcus of Roanoke, and Jared Getz of Lemoore, Ca.; one great granddaughter, Ivry Redd; three brothers, Jacob "Jake" Spitler of Harrisonburg, Wade Spitler of Missouri, and Raymond Spitler of Timberville; and three sisters, Betty Leach of Harrisonburg, Lona Fox of Luray, and Doris Long of Timberville.

Four brothers, Frank White, Harry Comer, Charles Spitler, and Dolan Spitler, preceded him in death.

The Rev. Debbie Dukes conducted a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Reformation Lutheran Church. The family received friends following the service.

The body was cremated.

Charles Wightman Jr.

Charles "Frank" Wightman Jr., 71, of Harrisonburg, passed away at his home Friday Oct. 6, 2017 after a long and difficult battle with cancer.

Frank was born on Oct. 18, 1945 in Woodstock and was the son of the late Charles Frank "Corky" Wightman and Martha Alice Coffman Wightman of Edinburg.

On April 20, 2002 he married Elaine Kay Stroop who survives.

Frank is also survived by a daughter, Ellen Maher of Texas; stepdaughter, Sherry LaRue and husband, David; a sister, Bobbie Houston and husband, Charles D. Houston of Alabama; step-grandson, Brandon LaRue of North Carolina; nieces and nephews, Sharon Johnson, Marty Johnson, Lauren Cook, Chloe Houston, Jeff Cook and Glenn Houston.

Frank was a member of the Methodist Church in Edinburg and worked for 40 years in the family business "Wightmans Grocery Store" in Edinburg. He retired from the Lear Company in Strasburg. He enjoyed baseball, football, golf, traveling and the outdoors camping and hiking.

The family would like to thank the Hahn Cancer Center, doctors, Sentara Hospice nurses and everyone's assistance during Frank's illness.

The family received friends Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 from 6-8 p.m., at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

Burial was private.
