Carl L. Brown II


Carl Lee "Buster" Brown II, 72, of Front Royal, passed away on Wednesday, Feb., 10, 2016, at the Winchester Medical Center.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 13, at Maddox Funeral Home, conducted by Sammy Campbell. Interment will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Buster was born on April 16, 1943, in Washington, D.C., son of the late Carl Lee Brown I and Frances Eleanor Harrington Brown.

He worked for more than 40 years for the Apple House as a truck driver.

Surviving are his loving wife, Vernell Roberts Brown; two sons, Carl Lee Brown III and Jeremy Adam Brown, both of Front Royal; and five daughters, Cynthia Galletta of Atlanta, Cheryl Brown Reynolds of Texas, Renee Ashmore of Waynesboro, Pamela Louise Brown of Georgia and Jennifer Ann Brown of Georgia. Buster was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Louise "Charlie Brown" Henry.

Pallbearers were Jeff Henry, Gregory Henry, Timmy Henry, Alan Shaffer Sr., Alan Shaffer Jr. and Dale Kinder.

Charles W. Mitchell


Charles William Mitchell, 85, of Front Royal, died on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016 at Winchester Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 at Good Hope Cemetery.

John J. Myers


John Johnson "Johnny" Myers, 85, of Front Royal, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, in the Warren Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service was held Monday, Feb. 15, at Prospect Hill Cemetery conducted by Dr. R. Mark Jordon.

Myers was born April 2, 1930, in Front Royal, son of Ward E. Myers Sr. and Stella Johnson Myers.

He was a 1949 graduate of Warren County High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a past member of the Front Royal Lions Club.

Myers owned and operated Donahoeís Florist for 41 years before retiring.

Surviving are his wife Margaret Ford Myers; brother Ward E. Myers Jr.; special niece Paige Turner Settle; great-nephew Jayson Bender; great-niece Shannon Bender; niece Terry Lynn; and nephew Ward Myers III.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Patsy Myers Turner.

Honorary pallbearers were Mike Silek, Jeff Settle, Scotty Reid, Bobby Gehringer, Joe Biggs, Audy Cline, James Compton, Arthur Maddox, and Buddy Ruffner.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Mary M. North


Mary Anna Mahoney North, 78, of Front Royal, went to be with her husband Feb. 14, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. North was born Oct. 30, 1937 in Huntly, to the late Noah H. and Florence V. Johnson Mahoney.

She was the loving wife of the late George Washington North Jr. until Dec. 25, 2013.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Chester Gap Baptist Church with Pastor Jimmy Burke officiating. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal.

Burial will be at Williams Family Cemetery, Chester Gap.

She previously worked for MacRoyal Laundry, the Old Virginia Packing House and Harmony Hollow Orchard. Her real passion was for her daughter and granddaughters, as well as making the familyís famous apple butter.

She was a member of Chester Gap Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter Pamela L. Williams and granddaughters Jennifer R. Williams and Wendy D. Williams, whom she helped raise, all of Front Royal; two sisters, Elizabeth Riley of Strasburg and Annie Walters of Browntown; brother James Mahoney of Chester Gap; sister-in-law Mabel Henderson of Front Royal; brother-in-law Anderson North of Chester Gap, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved, including Arnold, Peanut, and Johnny, whom she helped raise.

She was preceded in death by her brothers George, Edward, Presley, Noah Sr., Marshall, Charles and Walter Sr.

Brenda L. Smith


Brenda Lee Smith. 55, of Front Royal, passed away on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Maddox Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 16, 1960, daughter of the late Raymond Lebron Fugatt. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.

Surviving is her mother, Alice Lee Fugatt of Bentonville; her husband, Michael Smith of Front Royal; two daughters, Destiny Fugatt of Browntown and Lena Fugatt of Bentonville; her stepdaughter, Samantha Noel of Southern Maryland; one brother, Robert Fugatt of West Virginia; and three sisters, Theresa Curtis of Prince Frederick, Md., Dorothy Everstine of Edgewater, Md., and Barbara Johnson of Cape Coral, Fla.



John M. Stapleton


John Michael Stapleton, 60, of Front Royal, beloved son of Don and Jan Gibbin, died on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016.

A memorial service was held Sunday, Feb. 14, at Calvary Episcopal Church, conducted by Rev. Deborah Rutter. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Mike was born Feb. 28, 1955, in Alexandria, son of the late Wallace Lee Stapleton and Jan Gibbin of Front Royal.

Surviving along with his mother and stepfather are his siblings and their spouses, Scott Stapleton (Ana Carolina) of Linden, Kimberly Oskin (Richard) of Annandale, Todd Stapleton (Cherle) of Kitty Hawk, N.C., and Sheridan Keck (Fred) of Fredericksburg; one uncle, Mickey Hyder (Melinda) of Clermont, Ga., and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother Stephen Stapleton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a local animal shelter or a charity of your choice.
