Steven J. Carden

Steven "Stan" John Carden, 55, of Front Royal, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., with Pastor Lisa Webb officiating.

Mr. Carden was born May 7, 1960, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late George Patrick Carden and Marie O'Brien Carden.

He has lived in the Front Royal area for 12 years and was a regional sales manager with the Guerbet Company. He attended the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church and he was a dog lover, adopting several dogs from the Humane Society of Warren County.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Susan S. Carden of Front Royal; two sons, Reed Carden of Corolla, N.C., and Drew Carden of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; two sisters, Maureen Carey and her husband Ed of Rye, N.Y., and Virginia Carnahan and her husband David of Needham, Mass.; one brother, Bob Carden and his wife Susan of Naperville, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Donna Jewell and her husband Mike of Richmond; and his aunt, Shirley Lynn of Woodstock. He was blessed with many nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Maddox Funeral Home.

Interment will take place at a later date at Panorama Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the humane society, 1245 Progress Drive.

James S. Clawson

James Sherwood Clawson, 76 of Stephens City, died Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Winchester Medical Center.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, 1200 N. Shenandoah Ave.. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Inurnment was conducted Friday, April 15, at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle.

Mr. Clawson was born on Aug. 12, 1939, in Dixonville, Pa., a son of the late Walter and Nellie Bash Clawson.

He was a financial analyst for the Government Printing Office. He enjoyed trout fishing, baseball and football and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Mr. Clawson is survived by his wife, Sandra Clawson; his sons, Bryan Clawson (Jane) of Woodbridge, Scott Clawson (Lisa) of Corinth, Texas, Mark Clawson (Heather) of Linden, and Kevin Clawson of Winchester; his sisters, Daisy Clawson, Patricia Guttenberg, and Norma Jean Petrini; and his grandchildren, Emily Friedman, Ashley Friedman, Alec Clawson, Jake Clawson, Caroline Clawson and Brady James Clawson.

A reception will follow the memorial service at Bowling Green Country Club, North Ballroom, 838 Bowling Green Road.

Joseph D. Creveling Jr.

Joseph Deleno Creveling Jr., 83, of Lake Frederick, died Wednesday, March 9, 2016, in the Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center, Winchester.

Mr. Creveling was born May 26, 1932, in White Plains, N.Y., son of the late Joseph D. Creveling Sr. and Catherine Burgess Hubbell.

He was head of international marketing for Lockeed Martin.

He served in the U. S. Navy as a naval aviator.

He is survived by his wife Susan Merrill Creveling, whom he married on Feb. 19, 1988, in San Luis Obispo, Calif.; and his three children, Chris Turner of Gribling, Ariz., Daniel Creveling of Sacramento, Calif., and Andrea Grzabka of Port Angeles, Wash.

Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are being handled by Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Stephens City.

Joel F. Donnelly Jr.

Joel Francis Donnelly Jr., 59, of Shenandoah Farms, died Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at his home.

Joel was born Feb. 3, 1957, in Washington, D.C., son of Joel Francis Donnelly Sr. and Jo Ann T. Sauber Donnelly.

He was a loving husband who married his soulmate, Stacy S. Murtha, on July 11, 1989, at sunrise on Bright Angel Trail in Grand Canyon, Ariz. He was a devoted father and grandfather to four daughters and two granddaughters with another grandchild on the way.

He was a volunteer firefighter and EMT at Shenandoah Farms Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years. He thoroughly enjoyed his life on the river and was proud to share it with all.

Surviving with his wife are his mother of Vienna; four daughters, Seanan Corin Aubouin, Kailin Cori Donnelly, Jesse Francis Donnelly and Jordan Delana Donnelly; two granddaughters, Amelie Belle and Avlynn May Aubouin; two brothers, James Donnelly of Vienna and Justin Donnelly of Reston; and a sister, Jennifer Donnelly-Schoffstall of Lovettsville.

Preceding him in death were his father, Joel Francis Donnelly Sr. and his brother Jeffrey T. Donnelly.

A celebration of life will be held from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Boyce Volunteer Fire Hall, Boyce. Casual "tie-dye" attire is suggested in honor of Joel.

John R. Groom

John Robert Groom, 55, of Front Royal, passed away March 10, 2016, in Reston.

John was born on Nov. 24, 1956, in Chelsea, Mass., to the late Kenneth L. Groom and surviving Frances K. Groom.

He attended Granite Hills High School in El Cajon, Calif.a

He began his career as an electrician in 1980. He moved to Virginia in 2008 and was employed by GRCSI and Associates Inc.

Many people cared for John and knew he had a passion for living life to the fullest. Every day was a new beginning for John. He enjoyed cooking and was always in his kitchen making enough to feed an army.

He was known on his job site for his dry demeanor but always walked away smiling. John will be missed by all. What matters is how he lived and loved, for no one knows how much time they have left. So as John would say, "Slow down, smile, and have no regrets."

He is survived by his sister, Doreen Snow-McCray of San Diego; nieces, Shawna Snow of Front Royal and Reina Snow of San Diego; nephew Roger Snow and his wife Tiffany, of Copperas Cove, Texas; great-niece, Jocelyn Snow of El Cajon; the Arlingtons of Quincy, Mass.; the Perrys, Winslows and Provans of Weymouth, Mass.; Bests of Kingston, Mass.; and the love of his life, Gia, his dog.

There will be an open house for celebration of Johnís life from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 18, at 401 Viscose Ave.

John's final journey will be to Boston for final burial in the family plot.

Betty J. LaFever

Betty Jean LaFever, 83, of Front Royal, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family.

A memorial service was held Wednesday at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St, conducted by Pastor Andy Combs.

Mrs. LaFever was born Nov. 6, 1932, in Washington, D.C., to the late Sidney and Myrtle Cowley Jones.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Donald LaFever; five children, Richard LaFever and his wife Carla, Donna Robinson, Randy LaFever and his wife Ruthanne, Greg LaFever and Sharon LaFever; 11 grandchildren, Jammie and her husband Mike, Renee and her husband Chris, Collin, Dillon, Donald and his wife Jennifer, Katie and her husband Matthew, Christopher and his wife Nicki, Cynthia, Charlie, Jennifer and Mason; 11 great-grandchildren Krystin, Alivia, Anthany, Casey, Caden, Ian, Hailey, Tucker, Hayden, Natalie, and Lilly.

Tanya L. McDaniel

Tanya Lynn McDaniel, 32, of Front Royal, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Winchester Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Maddox Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in the Marshall Cemetery in Marshall.

Ms. McDaniel was born Aug. 13, 1983 in Fairfax, daughter of Mary Jane Sloper of Front Royal and the late Bradley Sloper.

Surviving with her mother are her long-time companion Alex R. Matos; two sons, Dontaye McDaniel of Newport News and Dominique Ross of Richmond; daughter Destiny Ross; two brothers, Jimmy McDaniel of Marshall and his wife Angela Lake and Cory Sloper of Front Royal and his companion Brandy Dawson; a niece, Harper Grace McDaniel of Marshall; a nephew, James Robert McDaniel, Jr. of Marshall; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her nephew Justin Cayton.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy McDaniel, Cory Sloper, Paul Sullivan, Michael, Joseph VanDenan and Gregory Reed.

Honorary pallbearer will be James Robert McDaniel Jr.

Patricia P. Miller

Patricia Ann "Pat" Poe Miller passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2016, at her home.

A funeral service was held Saturday, March 12, at Maddox Funeral Home with Dr. Michael Normoyle officiating. Interment followed in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Miller, daughter of William R. and Ruby D. Poe, was born Sept. 22, 1937 in Glen Echo, Warren County.

She attended Browntown Elementary School and graduated from Warren County High School.

She was a member of Browntown Baptist Church.

After graduation, Mrs. Miller moved to Arlington and began working for the Department of Justice. After taking time off to raise her children, she returned to the federal government and completed a 26-year career, serving with the Department of Transportation.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald R. Miller; two sisters, Doris Jean Poe and Laura Rebecca Poe; and one brother, Kenneth A. Poe.

She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Ann Miller of Browntown and Laura Miller Mangum of Alexandria; one son, Christopher R. Miller (Lisa); four grandchildren, Jessica Marshall, Rae Anne and Rachel Mangum of Alexandria, and Charles (C.J.) Miller of Browntown; two sisters, Alice Poe Grumbly and Gail Poe Miller of Browntown; and three brothers, George W. Poe of Front Royal, Robert D. Poe of Browntown, and Edgar A. Poe of Luray.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Jeffrey Poe, Michael Poe, Timothy Poe, Eric Poe, Mark Poe, Frank Aiello, Billy Poe and Paul Miller.

Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces, Cynthia Trail, Dawn Chapman, Monica Poe, Amy Proffitt, Molly Lockhart, Angela Buracker, Meredith Stimson, Caroline Tomechko, Shannon Poe, Candace Poe and Ashley Poe.

James M. Reagan

James Michael Reagan, 67, of Front Royal, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church.

Jimmy was born May 17, 1948, in Washington, D.C., to the late Bartlett Reagan and Inez Borgatti Reagan and has been a lifetime resident of the Northern Virginia area.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a postal supervisor at the White House and he served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Bridget Reagan; daughter, Siobhan Reagan of Front Royal; sons, Matthew Reagan of Front Royal and Kevin Reagan of Daphne, Ala.; brother, John Reagan of Milford, N.J.; sister, Julie Cleland of Grass Valley, Calif., and four grandchildren, Sean, Aislinn, Katie and Cooper.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St. Burial will follow the funeral Mass at St. Peterís Catholic Church Cemetery, Washington, Va.
