Jerry V. Brookman


Jerry Van Brookman, 61, of Front Royal, died on Wednesday, March 16, 2016.

A funeral service was held Monday, March 21, at Maddox Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Jim Bunce. Burial followed in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Brookman was born Feb. 24, 1955, in Warren County, son of the late Ralph Elmore Brookman and Jeanette Mae Henry Brookman.

He retired as a supervisor from Asplundh Tree Co. after 40 years of faithful service, where he was a dedicated boss and friend. His favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing and taking long rides with his late wife, Judy Ann Butler Brookman. He enjoyed going to the casino at Charles Town. He was especially fond of cats and dogs, as the animals held a special place in his heart.

Surviving are his daughter Candy Ann Brookman Hunger and her husband Robert; two sisters, Linda Jenkins and Teresa Curry; one brother, Michael Brookman; and three stepsons Charles Williams, John Williams and Ted Williams.



Harriet A. Grimsley


Harriet Anne (Sinclair) Grimsley passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 18, 2016, surrounded by family and friends. Having made her home in Falls Church for many years, she lived with her niece and nephew, Vernon and Dianne Miller in Linden for the past five years.

The daughter of George B. and Annie (Griffith) Sinclair, she was born on Oct. 16, 1927, in Hopewell. Mrs. Grimsley attended Marshall High School, graduating in 1944. After graduation, she was employed in Washington, D.C., with Olivetti and then with the American Cancer Research Institute for more than 25 years, retiring at the age of 83.

Surviving Mrs. Grimsley are her stepson John Grimsley and his wife Clotelle of Martinsburg, W.Va,; her stepdaughter Cindy Wilkins and her husband Lincoln of Kissimmee, Fla.; sister Clara (Sinclair) Kern and her husband Otto of Hampden, Mass.; brother Robert Sinclair and his wife Lulu of Marshall. Also surviving are six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband John S. Grimsley, stepson, William R. Grimsley, and two brothers, George C. Sinclair and Leslie G. Sinclair.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 25, also at the funeral home with burial to follow at Orlean Cemetery in Orlean, Fauquier County.

Charitable donations in Mrs. Grimsley's memory in lieu of flowers can be made to The Fauquier Heritage and Presevation Foundation, P.O. Box 594, Marshall, VA 20116.

A memorial luncheon will be held at the Moose Lodge on Route 55 in Front Royal after the graveside service.



Boyd H. Housden


Boyd Harmon Housden, 60, of Luray, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2016.

Mr. Housden was born on May 6, 1955, in Luray and was a son of the late June Jackson Housden and Kathleen Mary Buracker Housden.

He is survived by his brother Jeffrey Housden of Front Royal. He was preceded in death by his sister, Debora H. Housden.

Services are planned for a later date.



Joan D. Logie


Joan Davis Logie, 90, of Winchester, formerly of Front Royal, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Logie was born April 28, 1925, in New York City, daughter of Henry Lewis Davis and Josephine Davis. She was a volunteer for Second Chance Thrift Store and was a member of Front Royal Presbyterian Church. She was married for 67 years to the late Donald J. Logie Sr.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas D. Logie of North Port, Fla., and Donald J. Logie Jr. of Newington, Conn.; two grandchildren, Daniel Adams Logie and Deborah Logie Barr; and four great-grandchildren Naomi Logie, Jonathan Logie, Nathan Pipes, and Sarah Barr.

Arrangements are by Maddox Funeral Home Inc., Front Royal.



Grace G. Pangle


Grace Lavonne Gochenour Pangle, 92, of Strasburg, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at the home of her daughter in Strasburg.

A funeral service was held Monday, March 14, 2016, at Lebanon Lutheran Church, Shenandoah County, with the Rev. J.D. Cutlip officiating. Burial followed in Lebanon Church Cemetery.

She was born in the Waterlick community of Warren County, on Oct. 1, 1923, a daughter of the late Charles Medford and Naomi Frye Gochenour.

She was a member of Lebanon Lutheran Church and retired from Aileen Corp. in Strasburg, where she worked as a seamstress.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Arthur Pangle Jr.; and siblings, Tillden Gochenour, Garland Eastep, Catherine Cullers, Lola Gochenour and Freda Hill.

Survivors include her children, Carolyn Hitt, Richard Pangle, Delbert G. Pangle and wife, Brenda, and James R. Pangle, all of Strasburg; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Pangle, Carl Pangle, Michael Pangle, Rob West-coat, Paul Alexiou, and Terry Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be Floyd Ryman and Wayne Walker.

Linda G. Thompson


Linda G. Thompson, 73, of Front Royal, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 21, 2016, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, at Maddox Funeral Home with Sammy Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Linda was born on May 31, 1942, in the old Johnson Nursing Home in Front Royal, daughter of the late James Compton and Nellie Virginia Horton Compton Johnson.

Linda retired from Warren Memorial Hospital after many dedicated years of service. She enjoyed reading, watching movies and was truly a movie buff. There werenít too many movies you could stump her on.

Linda was an avid quilt maker and made many beautiful quilts for family and friends. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She was married to the late George W. Thompson Sr.

Surviving are two daughters Sherry Sours (Kenny) of Front Royal and Becky Tharp (Russell) of Front Royal; one son Mark Teabo (Heidi) of Front Royal; step-children Bill Thompson, Chuck Thompson, Mike Thompson, Cheryl Stone, all of Nevada and Tom Thompson (Betty) of Front Royal; two granddaughters, Tina Taylor and Paige Teabo, and many other grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; she is also survived by her faithful companion Cobalt her cat.

Linda was preceded in death by her daughter Connie S. Teabo.

Pallbearers will be Russell Tharp, John Taylor, Nicholas Sours, Darick Thompson, Chuck Thompson and Bill Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Sours and Tom Thompson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 28, at the funeral home.
