Thomas W. Harper


Thomas "Tom" William Harper, 62, of Elkton, and formerly of Ruddle, W.Va., passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg after having fought a courageous battle with Atypical Parkinson's Disease, corticobasal degeneration, for the past four years.

He was born Dec. 15, 1953, in Petersburg, W.Va., and was a son of the late Richard L. Harper and Louise Bradfield Harper.

Tom was a 1972 graduate of Franklin High School. He served eight years in the U.S. Air Force from 1972 to 1980 and later worked as a sales representative with LBM Office Solutions in Lynchburg. He worked at Harrisonburg Auto Auction and was a volunteer at Sentara RMH.

On Nov. 26, 1992, he married Gayle Campomezzi Harper, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Tommy Harper (Torrie) of Front Royal, and Chad Harper (Caroline) of Odenton, Md.; two stepsons, Michael Frye of Harrisonburg, and Patrick Frye (Emily) of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Phyllis Eye (Tom) of Frederick, Md., and Sharon Griffeth (Bob) of Duluth, Ga.; one brother, Dick Harper (Janice) of Bridgewater; one sister-in-law, Annmarie Skolnick (Dave) of Nakomis, Fla.; his mother-in-law, Marie Campomezzi of Harrisonburg; five grandchildren, Hannah, Joseph, Caroline Mae, Matthew and Patricia Jane Harper; two stepgrandchildren, Logan and Bella Frye; one great-grandson, Haydon Joseph Turowski; five nephews and one niece.

A time of remembrance and sharing was conducted Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Kyger Funeral Home, Harrisonburg, with Mark Briehl officiating.

Myrna E. Mason


Myrna E. Mason, 71, of Chesapeake, formerly of Front Royal, passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2016 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., Front Royal, with Sammy Campbell officiating. A private burial will be held following the service.

Mrs. Mason was born on March 31, 1945, in Statesville, N.C., to Dawson Elliott and Nelda Keever Elliott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gilbert Elliott and her husband, Charles H. Mason.

She formerly owned Myrnaís Styling Boutique in Front Royal, was an instructor at the Robert Armel Beauty School and worked as a hairdresser at various salons locally.

She was a member of Front Royal United Methodist Church and a former resident of Winchester, relocating to Chesapeake in 2010 to be near her daughter. She was an expert seamstress and crafter, making quilts, afghans and many other treasures for her family and friends.

Survivors include her former husband and companion of six years, Jack White of Chesapeake; two daughters, Kimberly Clem (B.K.) of Chesapeake and Kollette Henry (John) of Luray; one sister, Darla Hannan (Charles) of Silver Spring, Md.; three grandchildren, James Poe, Amber Morris (Christopher) and Darrian Henry; three great grandchildren, Logan, Emma and William Morris. Survivors also include two nephews, one niece, as well as an extended family of relatives and friends that will miss her.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Maddox Funeral Home.

Jeanne W. Mullins


Jeanne Willey Mullins, 89, of Front Royal, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, in the Lynn Care Center, Front Royal, surrounded by her son George and her daughter Jenna Jill.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Maddox Funeral Home with The Rev. Deborah Rutter and Sammy Campbell officiating. Interment followed in the Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Mullins was born Nov. 1, 1926, in Front Royal, daughter of Lloyd Yates Willey and Sybil Randolph Russell Willey.

Mrs. Mullins was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday school for 30 years. She also was a member of the Garden Club of Warren County, and a gourmet cook.

She was married to the late retired Virginia State Trooper George G. Mullins. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Mullins was preceded in death by her uncle, retired Virginia State Senate Majority Leader Sen. Edward Eugene Willey.

Surviving are her daughter Jeena Jill Mullins Brabant and son-in-law Wilfred of King George; son George Yates Mullins of Front Royal; two granddaughters, Kayla Jill Brabant and Kara Nicole Brabant both of King George; sister Ellen Wilson and husband Samuel of Crestview, Fla.; and a very dear and devoted friend of many years Louise King Eastham.

Pallbearers were family and friends.
