Edwina J. Bayliss


Edwina J. "Winnie" Bayliss of Front Royal passed away on Nov. 24, 2016.

She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her sister Jean Swift; brother Bill Denbo; daughter Brenda Stubbs; and many loved family and friends.

She was preceded in death by George Bayliss, Cathy Bayliss, Burt Bayliss, Edwin Denbo and Geraldine Denbo.

A viewing and service were held Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Demaine Funeral Home, Alexandria. Burial followed at Mount Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to Blue Ridge Hospice.



Father Constantine-Paul Michael Belisarius


Father Constantine-Paul Michael Belisarius (Charles J. Bell Jr. prior to his ordination to the holy priesthood) passed away on Sunday, Nov. 27, at Winchester Medical Center.

Father Constantine was born on July 7, 1943, in Charlotte, N.C., to Charles Allen Bell and Edna Young Bell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Mona Kay Bell Maxwell and Peggy Lou Bell. Survivors include his sister Betty Sue Mills of Yorktown; brother Phillip of Asheville, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Holy Transfiguration Melkite Greek Catholic Church, 8501 Lewinsville Road, McLean, with Father Joseph Francavilla officiating. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St.



Amy M. Hounshell


Amy Margaret Hounshell, 87, of Winchester, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, at her home.

Mrs. Hounshell was born Aug. 6, 1929, in Shenandoah County, the daughter of Gilbert E. and Amy Virginia Feather Russell.

Amy is survived by her daughters, Margaret Gail Brown of Winchester and Diana Payne McKinney of Front Royal; sisters, Dorothy Irene Mills of Clear Brook and Georgia Mae Russell of Winchester; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Ricky Monroe Hounshell; her sisters, Virginia Pingley, Louise Lineweaver and Elsie McKinney; and brothers, James Theodore Russell, William Earl Russell, George Gilbert Russell and Clarence ìSpeedyî Russell.

Family will receive friends from 6 yo 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Jones Funeral Home, 228 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Winchester. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 at Jones Funeral Home, with Rev. Yun Chol Kim officiating. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

William Polk


William "Woody" Polk, 86, of Front Royal, passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016, at Heritage Hall, Front Royal.

Woody was born on June 27, 1930, in Strasburg, to Raymond Polk and Elizabeth Lam.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Shelby Polk; three sons, William Polk Jr., Richard Polk and Jeff Polk; three brothers, Ray Polk, Jerry Polk and Richard Lam; four sisters, Janet Sturgeon, Marie Cline, Millie Funkhouser and Dorothy Sites; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with burial to follow in Marshall Cemetery.

Hortense B. Ralls


Hortense Baumgardner Ralls, 81, of Front Royal, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016.

Mrs. Ralls was born July 10, 1935, in Front Royal, daughter of Vernon Benjamin Baumgardner and Louise Stickley Baumgardner. She was the wife of Kenneth Allen Ralls.

Surviving are her daughter Kirsten Ralls of Front Royal; son Kerwin Ralls of Winchester; brother Janna Baumgardner of Mechanicsville; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Norene Mathews.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Front Royal United Methodist Church, conducted by Pastor Alan Combs. Burial followed in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Front Royal United Methodist Church, 1 W. Main St., Front Royal, VA 22630.

Ralph R. Wallen


Ralph Randall ìRockyî Wallen, 59, of Front Royal, Virginia passed away on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, at his residence.

Rocky was born in Richwood, W.Va., on Aug. 12, 1957. He was preceded in death by his father, Conley Fisher.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Michelle Renee Wallen; mother Cosby ìCubbyî Fisher; son Timothy Adam Wallen; daughter Mindy Renee Wallen; sister Terry Lynn Clark; brother Robert Bosacco; two grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA.



Robert L. Whitacre


Robert Lee Whitacre, 85, of Stephens City, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Whitacre was born April 3, 1931, in Martinsburg, W.Va., son of Thomas Jefferson Whitacre and Martha Clark Whitacre.

He served in the U.S. Air Force in Korea.

He married Patricia Jean Whitacre on May 17, 1957, in Hagerstown, Md.

Surviving with his wife are his daughter, Sandra F. Whitacre (Robert E.) of Frederick County; two sons, Ronald L. Whitacre (Elizabeth N.) of Winchester and Warren S. Whitacre (Vickie L.) of Frederick County; five grandchildren; a great-grandson and a great-granddaughter.

His parents and his six brothers and seven sisters preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at Stephens City United Methodist Church, with Pastor Rob Schoeman officiating. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County. Military honors provided by the Clarke County Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, 5095 Main St., Stephens City.
