Obituaries — Warren County


Gertrude D. Boyd


Gertrude Dorothy Boyd, 88, of Front Royal, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at Warren Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Boyd was born on May 21, 1928, in Warren County, to Charles Ernest Kuser and Ella Virginia Fox Kuser. She married Thomas Eugene Boyd in 1945. They were married for 54 years before he went to meet his Lord.

Survivors include her son Roger Lee Boyd Sr. of Front Royal; daughter-in-law, Darlene Boyd of Woodstock; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son Daniel Eugene Boyd and brothers Charles S. Kuser, Reuben W. Kuser and Aubrey Lee Kuser.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., with Pastor Happy Anderson officiating. Burial followed in Panorama Memorial Gardens, Waterlick.



Mary Katherine M. Dennison


Mary Katherine ìRuffyî Marchi Dennison, 92, of Front Royal, passed away on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at the home of her daughter, Kathy, in Bon Air.

Mary was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Pulaski, the daughter of Frederick and Catherine Lowman Ryan.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Joseph L. Marchi Sr. and her second husband Fred E. Dennison.

Mary is survived by her son Joseph L. Marchi Jr., of Troy; daughter Katherine M. Dunwiddie of Bon Air; and son Sean Marchi of Front Royal. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, sister Cil King of Fredericksburg, brother William Ryan of Flintstone, Md., and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the Front Royal Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Hill and Wood Funeral Service, Charlottesville.



Eva M. Devlin


Eva Mae Devlin, 86, a longtime resident of Front Royal, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016.

Eva was the daughter of Ellis and Mae Roberts of Phoenixville, Pa.

She will be dearly missed by her husband of 67 years, William Devlin; sister Cathy Nichols and brother Orville Roberts of Pennsylvania; son William Devlin of Elverson, Pa.; daughter Lorraine Welch-Morse of Neversink, N.Y.; daughter Eileen Moriarty of Fort Valley; daughter Patti Nappi of Berlin, Conn.; her six grandchildren, and countless others.

Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at Eva and Billís home, 86 McCoys Ford Road, Front Royal, followed by a short memorial service in the home. A service will be held in Pennsylvania as well at a later date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1833 Jubal Early Drive, Winchester, VA 22601.

Arrangements are being handled by Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal.



Charles E. Miles


Charles Edward Miles Jr., 66, of Front Royal, passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2016.

Mr. Miles was born Sept. 25, 1950, in Front Royal, son of Charles Edward Miles Sr. and Marguerite Willingham Miles Wakeman.

Surviving are his wife, Lynn Zahorchak Miles of Front Royal; son, Benjamin Charles Miles of Ashville, N.C.; stepchildren Nicholas Rhea and Brittany Zahorchak; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his half-brother Donald Dale Wakeman.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St. A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at the funeral home, conducted by Sammy Campbell. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.



James F. Pezalla


James F. Pezalla, 83, of Front Royal, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at his residence.

Mr. Pezalla was born on March 6, 1933, in Lisbon, N.D., to Leonard Peter Pezalla and Uarda Wands Chisman Pezalla.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Marie V. Pezalla.

Survivors include his wife Nita Vaughan Pezalla of Front Royal; two daughters, Karen F. Fried and Sharon K. Buehler, both of Front Royal; stepdaughter, Tenyce L. Barton of Front Royal; two grandchildren, a stepgranddaughter, a great-grandson, and his beloved dog Mary.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St.. Burial will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.



Herman A. Rudacille


Herman Allan ìSonnyî Rudacille, 78, of Front Royal, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016.

Sonny was born Feb. 9, 1938, in Martinsburg, W.Va., son of Herman Clifton Rudacille and Virginia Elizabeth Woodward Rudacille.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years Dorothy Compton Rudacille; one son Scot Allan Rudacille of Front Royal; and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Elsie Redden.

The family received friends on Sunday, Dec. 18, at Maddox Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service conducted by Sammy Campbell. Burial followed in Prospect Hill Cemetery.



Joseph W. Whitlock


Joseph Wilson Whitlock, 81, of Front Royal, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at his residence.

Mr. Whitlock was born in 1935 in Shenandoah, the son of Clarence and Mary Whitlock.

Mr. Whitlock married Bonnie L. Willingham on April 19, 1997.

Along with his wife, Mr. Whitlock is survived by his three daughters, Tammy Funkhouser of Stephens City, Teresa Rogers of Stephens City, and Sharon Russell of Stephens City; stepdaughter Ashley Willingham-Torp of Stephens City; son Jeffrey W. Whitlock of Winchester; five grandchildren; and his canine companion, Nila.

Mr. Whitlock was preceded in death by his parents, grandchild Lindsey Delozier; three sisters; one brother; and his canine companion, Prissy.

The family received friends Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, Winchester. A funeral service was held afterward at the funeral home, with the Rev. Darrell Waller officiating. Interment followed in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester.
