Dorothy L. Armstrong


Dorothy Louise Armstrong, 86, of Rileyville, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, at MontVue Nursing Home, Luray.

She was born on May 23, 1930, in Rileyville, a daughter of Paul Henry ìNigî Stoneberger and Verlie Mae Rickard Stoneberger.

She is survived by her son Wallace ìWalleyî Armstrong of Rileyville; daughters Faye Good of Luray and Kay Griffith of Rileyville; sisters Shirley Mae Nichols of Front Royal, Betty Jane McRay of Ruckersville, Nancy Alvaretta Mathews and Carol Jean Mathews, both of Bentonville and Mary Ann Stoneberger of Rileyville; brothers Albert Lee Stoneberger of Rileyville, and Lynwood Paul and Joseph Henry Stoneberger, both of Bentonville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wallace Bryant ìRedî Armstrong, and sisters, Patricia Ann Stoneberger and Linda Lou Mathews.

A funeral service was conducted Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at Bradley Funeral Home by Garland ìBubbaî Gochenour. Burial was in the Beahmís Chapel Cemetery in Luray.

Woodrow W. Crum


Woodrow Wilson Crum, 81, of Bentonville passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester.

Wilson was born in Franklin County on Aug. 16, 1935, a son of Irvin Wilson Crum and Lucy Odell Quinn Crum

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter Peggy; a granddaughter; brothers Bobby, Johnny and Junior; and sister Nancy Hall.

He is survived by his wife Tiny Bell Crum; children Marie McBride, Roy Chisom, Judy James, Patsy Weatherholt, Larry 'Slick' Crum, DeEtta Gillispie and Randall Trail; 13 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.

Family accepted friends Dec. 30 at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home.

A memorial service was held Tuesday in Franklin County. Burial was held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Blue Ridge Hospice.



Roger R. McClanahan


Roger Richard McClanahan, 81, passed away at home in Annandale, on Monday, Dec. 26, 2016.

He was born June 17, 1935, in Strasburg, to Oscar Fred McClanahan and Bertie Francis Hoffman McClanahan.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Janice Elaine Feathers McClanahan.

Survivors include his two daughters, Vicki L. McClanahan and Tammy E. McClanahan of Annandale; brothers, Glen McClanahan and Jerry McClanahan; sisters, Ruby McClanahan Stepp Eldridge, Nancy Andrick and Patsy McClanahan Hottle Clark; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held Monday at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Rd., Fairfax, Virginia. Burial followed the service in Fairfax Memorial Park.



Linda L. Smiley


Linda Ligon Smiley, 72, of Browntown, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.

Ms. Smiley was born on April 6, 1944, in Roanoke, to Grover Carlton Ligon and Ruth Moseley Goodman.

Survivors include her daughters, Sherry Ann Smiley and Tanya Smiley Bergeron; brother, Grover C. Ligon; sister Elizabeth E. Trammell; one grandson, and her beloved dog, Tulip.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Humane Society of Warren County, 1245 Progess Drive, Front Royal, VA 22630.



Frances R. Vincent


Frances Evelyn Robinson Vincent, 81, of Front Royal, passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at her home.

Mrs. Vincent was born on Jan. 18, 1935 in Warren County, to Bedford L. ìJakeî Robinson and Warren Edith Clegg Robinson.

Survivors include her children, Alfred Vincent and Wanda Vincent, both of Front Royal; sister Margaret McDonald of Front Royal; half brother Jerry Robinson of Strasburg; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., with Sammy Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Bennettís Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wanda Vincent directly for assistance with funeral expenses.



Laura L. Whyte


Laura Lynn Whyte of Rileyville, passed away peacefully Dec. 31, 2016, in Winchester.

Laura was born Aug. 17, 1963, to Cheryl and Leon Boyd in Warrenton.

She is survived by her mother Cheryl Cameron; father and stepmother Leon and Patricia Boyd; siblings Michelle McLaughlin, Lee and Heather Mergler, Timothy McLaughlin, Christopher and Laura Boyd; children, Janelle and Gabriel De Jes˙s, Joseph Arnold, Rebecca Bowen, Corey Bowen, Rosaleigh Gauthier-Tyger, Daniel Lyster-Mensch and Autumn Bowen; three uncles; four nieces and a nephew; six grandchildren; and the love of her life and lifelong partner, Abner Randolph "Randy" Bowen Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., with Chaplain Jennifer Compton officiating. Burial will follow in Howellsville Cemetery, Front Royal.
