John H. Smedley, Sr.
John H. Smedley, Sr., 64, of Front Royal, Virginia, died Friday, August 24, 2012, at Wnchester Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 1st, at 11 a.m. at the Riverton United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Michael Derflinger. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Smedley was born Sept. 25, 1947, in the Johnson’s Nursing Home in Front Royal, son of the late Charles Lewis “Sheep” Smedley and Myrtle Mae Rudacille Smedley. He was the Commissioner of Revenue of Warren County for 24 years. Previously he was employed as Tax Assessor for Warren County, as an independent distributor for The Washington Post, owner/operator of The Blue Ridge Market, and employed at Warren Quality Shop.
Mr. Smedley was a member of the Virginia Association of Assessing Officers, Commissioner of the Revenue Association of Virginia, Commissioner of the Revenue Executive Board-past member, Virginia Association of Local Elected Constitutional Officers, West Central Commissioner of the Revenue Association, Virginia Association of Local Tax Auditors, Izaak Walton League - Treasurer for 21 years, Warren County Republican Committee, Riverton United Methodist Church – President of the Men’s Group, past member of the Front Royal Rotary Club served as Treasurer for six years, and was a Paul Harris Fellow, past member of the Front Royal-Warren County Jaycees serving as President and won the Outstanding Young Man of Warren County and Outstanding Young Man of America in 1975, and former member of the Chamber of Commerce of Front Royal and Warren County. He was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins.
Surviving are his wife Doris Ann Dodson Smedley; two sons John H. Smedley, Jr. and his wife Melissa of Fort Valley and Christopher Kelley Smedley and his wife Linda of Stephens City; two daughters Desiree Nicole Smedley of Front Royal and Jessica Lesley Margaret Smedley Pinker and husband Jason of Bristow; three brothers Donnie Milton Smedley, Winifred Lee “Win” Smedley, and Charles William “Shavey” Smedley all of Browntown; a sister Geneva Mae “Sally” Stogdale of Front Royal; eight grandchildren Brittney Kaye Fletcher, Alyssa Kathryn Smedley, Deadra Valexity Smedley, Diane Marie Smedley, Wesley Dwayne Smedley, Christopher Evan Smedley, John Preston Smedley, and Andrew Chase Turner; a great-granddaughter Valexity Mae Jo Jenkins; an aunt and uncle Margaret and John Torrence; a sister-in-law Jimmye Ann Dodson; and 13 nieces and nephews Tamara Lee “Tammy” Buracker, Trey Dodson, Leonard Wayne Smedley, Danny Milton Smedley, Michael David Smedley, Deborah Lynn Dawson, Lori Ann Barnett, William Lee Smedley, Charles Martin Smedley, Bryan Beavers Smedley, Jason Bradley Smedley, Walter Lee Vickers, Jr., and Kimberly Vickers Shifflett. He is also survived by his two loving pet cats “Mr. Peepers” and “Boo.”
He was preceded in death by a brother Leonard Louis Smedley and a sister Lois Ann Smedley.
Pallbearers will be Dominic Repici, Richard Campbell, Wendall Davis, Norman Shiflett, David Blanton, Ralph Smith, Burt Sours, and Jesse “J.R.” Dove.
Honorary pallbearers will be staff members of the Commissioner of the Revenue Office; Crystal Jarvis, Emily Jordan, Deanna Heishman, Roy Boyles, Linda Fuller, Chrissy Thomas, Vivian Lake, and Sherry Sours.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 p.m. until 9: p.m. at the Riverton United Methodist Church.

Mary Barr Windle
Mary Barr Windle, 51, of Front Royal, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2012 at her home.
Funeral services was held Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Pastor Randall Anderson. Burial followed at Panorama Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Windle was born March 13, 1961 in Front Royal, daughter of the late Curtis Barr and Shelby Jean Franklin Barr. She was a bartender at the Main Street Mill.
Surviving are her husband, Dennis Windle; three sons Keith Tolson, Jonathan Tolson and Brandon Tolson all of Front Royal; two sisters Kathy Sealock and her husband John and Vallie “Sissy” Fletcher and her husband Billy; and a grandson Nikolas Tolson of Front Royal. She was predeceased by a brother.
Pallbearers were John Paul Sealock, Daniel Barr, Curtis Sealock, Michael Sealock, James Youngblood, Jr. and Tony Green.
Honorary pallbearers were Kevin Windle, Donnie Smith and Dennis Jenkins.

Mary Margaret Chambers
Mary Margaret Chambers, age 89, of Front Royal, formerly of Manassas, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at the home of her daughter.
A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, August 31, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home with Chaplain Kitty Hahn officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Mrs. Chambers was born in Star Tannery on Oct. 15 1922, a daughter of the late James Henry and Frances Lee Orndorf DeJarnette. She was a private person who loved her family. She worked for Marriott In Flight Services. She was Pentecostal by faith.
She is survived by her daughters, Scarlett Gray and husband Robert of Front Royal, Krystal Kay Rollinson and husband George of Linden, Gwendolyn Stuphin and husband Richard of Berryville, Marilyn Broyles of Acworth, GA and Nancie Tatum of Manassas; five grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chambers was preceded in death by her husband Broduf Chambers; and her daughters, Sharon Titus and Marion Smallwood.
Pallbearers will be Robert Gray, Ty Jones, CJ Brown, Shawn Sadler, Cody Kanavel, Brandon Beavers, Michael Kosar and Bonnie Gray.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Aug. 30, from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Glenn Richard Vogt
Glenn Richard Vogt, 82, of Front Royal, died on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at his home.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Front Royal conducted by Rev. Richard Carr. Burial followed in Prospect Hill Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Vogt was born Jan. 12, 1930 in Geneva, N.Y., son of the late Nelson Vogt and Ocie Starr Vogt. He was in the National Guard and joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Vogt retired as a supervisor from the Verizon Telephone Company in Fairfax, VA. He was Past-President of the Fairfax Mid-Day Lions Club and a charter member of the Easy Goin’ Bass Club.
Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years Sandra Vogt; six children Pat Iman and husband Joe, Brenda Braford and husband Paul, Deborah Dove and husband Richard, Rick Vogt and wife Wendy, Lea Ann Poe and husband Mike, and Greg Vogt and wife Roxanne; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister Lois; and one brother Dick. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Don, Bob, and Fred; and one sister Doris.
Pallbearers were grandsons Jerry Lee Ward, Jonathan Iman, Josh Iman, Jeremy Vogt, Tyler Poe, and Kevin Talbott.
The family received friends on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal.

Hilda Katherine Kronk Neff,
Hilda Katherine Kronk Neff, 89, of Strasburg, died Aug. 19 with family by her side.
Hilda was born April 22, 1923, near Toms Brook, eldest daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Ethel Mae Hahn Kronk. On June 15, 1947, she married Roy Neff and they were married 56 years before his passing in 2003. She retired from Avtex Fibers and was a life member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
Family members include her three daughters, Phyllis Neff Himelright and husband Ike, Judy Neff Rinker and husband Rick, all of Strasburg, and Deborah Neff Rickard and Jimmy Pirtle of Mt. Jackson; sisters, Janet Estep of Strasburg and Louise Hausenfluck of Woodstock; brother, Marvin (Buddy) Kronk of Palm Bay, Fla.; six grandchildren, Christina Himelright Racey and Todd Himelright and wife Corrine, all of Winchester, Russell Rinker of Los Angeles, Calif., Kelly Rinker Cauthorn and husband Ben of Stephens City, Chelsey Rickard of Mt. Jackson, and Lindsey Rickard of Winchester; nine great-grandchildren, Dylan Morey, Austin Racey, Claire, Caleb, Grant and Elise Cauthorn, and Brayden, Kason and Ella Himelright.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Geneva (Betsy) McWilliams; and two brothers, Ralph (Pete) Kronk and Harland Kronk.
A celebration of her life was held on Saturday, Aug. 25, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Toms Brook conducted by Pastor Deanna Boynton.
Pallbearers were Ike Himelright, Rick Rinker, Russell Rinker, Todd Himelright, Ben Cauthorn and Dylan Morey.
Burial followed at Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.
