Jean F. Barbour


Jean Fernandes Barbour, 78, of Front Royal, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017.

Jean was born on June 13, 1938, to Henrique "Henry" Fernandes Sr. and Mary Britte Fernandes in Marion, Mass. She was married to Charles Barbour on Dec. 31, 1960.

She is survived by her brother, Steven Fernandes; and sisters, Elizabeth Walker, Nancy Concholar and Julie Ann Gomes; daughters, Elaine Barbour Curry and Brenda Marie Barbour; five grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; brothers John Teixeira, Henry Fernandes Jr. and Manual Fernandes; sister Flora Pina; and daughter Renee Cheryl Barbour.

Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Front Royal United Methodist Church, 1 W. Main St., Front Royal. Viewings were held Tuesday at the Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home and Wednesday at the Front Royal United Methodist Church.



Michael W. Barker


Michael Wayne Barker, 65, of Front Royal, and formerly of Howard County, Md., died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017.

Mr. Barker was born March 28, 1951, in Oella, Md., son of Elmer Cornelius Barker and Eleanor Francis Hamilton Barker.

Surviving are his wife Rebecca A. Long of Front Royal; son Daniel Wayne Barker of Catonsville; sisters Terry Lynn Zeigler of Catonsville and Deborah Ann Jones of Front Royal; and brother Roger "Bo" Barker of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 7, at God's Place, 200 Reliance Road, Middletown, conducted by Pastor Doug Lowell. A second memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Catonsville, Md.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shenandoah Oncology Cancer Treatment Center in his memory.

Arrangements were handled by Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal.



Otis F. Crabbe, Sr.


Otis Furman "Bill" Crabbe, Sr. 85, of Front Royal, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017.

Bill was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Fredericksburg, son of Ernest James Crabbe Sr. and Adelaide Grace Clarke Crabbe.

Surviving are his wife Cheryl Crabbe; sons, Otis F. "Butch" Crabbe Jr. of Macon, Ga., Timothy James Badillo of Vienna, and Thomas Joseph Badillo of Fredericksburg; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Bill was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

A funeral service was conducted Monday, Jan. 9, at the Front Royal Baptist Temple, 25 W. 18th St., with Pastor Danny Clegg officiating. Entombment followed in the Panorama Memorial Gardens, Waterlick, with military honors provided by VFW Post 2123, Winchester.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork St., Winchester, Virginia 22601.

Arrangements were handled by Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal.



William D. Goad


William Dennis "Rusty" Goad, 55, of Front Royal, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017.

Rusty was born June 23, 1961 in Front Royal, son of Joyce Elaine Williams Goad.

Surviving are his sister Bonnie (Rick) Kirkland of Front Royal; one niece; one nephew; and two great-nephews.

Along with his mother, Rusty was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Hazel Williams.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Maddox Funeral Home, conducted by Sammy Campbell. Burial followed in Prospect Hill Cemetery.?

John G. King


John G. King, 63, of Front Royal, passed away on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017.

Mr. King was born on Aug. 2, 1953, in Norfolk, to Robert Lee King and Geraldine Hall King.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Keith King.

Survivors include his companion, Sharon Deavers of Linden; sister Nancy L. King Hines of Augusta, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., with Sammy Campbell officiating. Burial followed in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, the Shenandoah National Park Service or a charity of one's choice.



Walker B. Myers


Walker Benjamin Myers, 72, of Front Royal, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 30, 2016.

A homegoing celebration was conducted Saturday, Jan. 7, at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home. Burial followed in Providence Cemetery in Orlean. The family received friends prior to the service at the funeral home.



Inge E. Pence


Inge E. Pence, 87, of Browntown, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017.

Mrs. Pence was born Jan. 7, 1929, in Czechoslovakia, daughter of Georg and Berta Bauer. She was married to Wilmuth James Pence, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are her son Marvin Pence, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter, all of Browntown; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family in Germany.

A funeral service was held Sunday, Jan. 8, at Maddox Funeral Home. Burial was private at the family cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Warren County , 1245 Progress Drive, Front Royal, VA 22630.



William H. Sudduth Sr.


William ìBillî Harrison Sudduth Sr., 78, of Jeffersonton, passed away Dec. 30, 2016, with his beloved wife, Helen Geraldine Sudduth, by his side.

He was born Feb. 24, 1938, to Turner and Mabel Sudduth.

He loved his family with all his heart and is survived by his children, William H. Sudduth Jr. and Sheli Paugh of Front Royal, Teresa and Andy Law of Jeffersonton and Judy Sudduth of Strasburg; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Duke Vickers or Owings Mill, Md.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three infant children and two brothers, Tommy and Robert ìBoî Sudduth.

A celebration of life was held at Long Branch Baptist Church in The Plains on Jan. 4. Burial followed in Middleburg Memorial Cemetery.

The family requests contributions be made to St. Jude Childrenís Research Hospital.

Arrangements were handled by Royston Funeral Home, Marshall.



Thomas O. Williams


Thomas Oliver "Timmy" Williams, 73, of Chester Gap, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017.

Mr. Williams was born Jan. 7, 1943, in Front Royal, son of Walter H. Williams and Hannah Marie Pearson Williams.

Surviving are three sons, Thomas O. Williams Jr. of Salem, Jeffrey Todd Williams of Gerrardstown, W.Va., and Anthony Craig Williams of Amissville; brother Jimmy Williams of Chester Gap; sister Louise Mathews of Browntown; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Walter H. "Bobby" Williams.

A funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 9, at Maddox Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Jim Williams and the Rev. Jimmy Burke. Burial followed in the Williams Family Cemetery in Chester Gap.
