Blanche J. Ashby

Blanche Jobe Ashby, 97, of Boyce, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017.

Ms. Ashby was born May 14, 1919, in Page County, the daughter of David Benton Jobe and Beatrice Presgraves Jobe.

Surviving are her son, Garland Ashby of Boyce; brother Tyson Jobe of Stephens City; a grandson; a stepgrandson; a great-grandson,; a stepgreat-grandson; a great-great-granddaughter; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Janet Louise Ashby McKeown, and two sisters, Leona Getts and Jessie Jones.

A funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 16, at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville, with the Rev. Martha Reynolds officiating. Burial followed in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.

Audrey M. Darr

Audrey Genevieve Mills Darr, 89, of Front Royal, went peacefully with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017.

Mrs. Darr was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Front Royal, daughter of William Henry Mills and Nettie Lea Mills.

Surviving are her children, George W. Allison of Woodstock, Carol Peyko of Cross Junction, Michael Allison of Andrews, N.C., and Roberta Hall of Dover, Pa.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, George W. Allison; her second husband, Richard Darr; son Donald Lee Allison; two brothers; and six sisters.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Rivermont Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Seth Alcorn. Burial followed in Panorama Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements were handled by Maddox Funeral Home Inc., Front Royal.

John A. Dean

John Andrew Dean, 67, of Strasburg, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017.

John was born in Hot Springs, the son of Myrtle Marie Hise Withrow and Norval Geharlington Dean.

Surviving along with his mother are his wife, Dorothy J. Dean; son Johnny Ray Dean; stepchildren Rebecca Hyde and Allen Hyde; brother James Dean; and two sisters Catherine Brown and Ethel Doyle.

His father preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Calvary Episcopal Church, officiated by Susan OíKelly, chaplain of Blue Ridge Hospice.

Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 2260l.

Gladys B. Fletcher

Gladys Helen Beaty Fletcher, 68, of Linden, died on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Fletcher was born Nov. 5, 1948, in Front Royal, daughter of Giles O. Beaty and Gladys Irene Curry Beaty.

Surviving are her husband, James Fletcher of Linden; daughter Wendy Kay Fletcher Henry of Front Royal; son James E. Fletcher Jr. of Linden; and brothers Floyd Beaty of Romney, W.Va., Sam Lee Beaty of Haymarket, Luther Edward Beaty of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Larry Beaty and Joe Beaty, both of Front Royal.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Charlie Beaty and sister Irene Clatterbuck.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Wanda S. Powell

Wanda "Angel" Smith Powell, 75, of Front Royal, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017.

Mrs. Powell was born oct. 10, 1941, in Russell County, a daughter of Paul Louis and Helen Loedio Helton Smith.

Mrs. Powell is survived by her husband, William Powell Sr.; her son, Jerry Lee Horton of Fairfax Station; her sisters, Janet Clark of Manassas and Brenda Legge of Fort Mill, S.C.; and her two granddaughters.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Louis Smith.

A funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home.

Burial was held Wednesday in Russell Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon.

Betty B. Streapy

Betty Jane Byrd Streapy, 80, of Huntly, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017.

Mrs. Streapy was born on July 2, 1936, in Rocky Mount, to Reginald and Gladys Byrd.

Survivors include her husband, Major Ed Streapy; two daughters, Lisa Streapy of Reston and Cathy Nowell of Front Royal; one grandson and two great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m today at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, Front Royal. Burial will follow in Washington Masonic Cemetery in Washington, Va.

Arrangements are being handled by Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal.
