Hilda Bowman


Hilda Bowman passed away Jan. 17, 2017, at the age of 97.

Hilda was born and raised in Strasburg, the daughter of Early and Lizzie Bennett Wilson

She was preceded in death by her parents and all 11 of her brothers and sisters.

She was married to Rumsey ìDickî Bowman; and a mother of three children, Betty Bowman Dameron, Janet Bowman Allen, and Richard Bowman, who preceded her in death. Hilda was the grandmother of six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Jan. 21, 2017, at Heritage Hall, 400 W. Strasburg Rd., Front Royal, Va. 22630.

Arrangements were handled by Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal.



Wayne L. Clatterbuck


Wayne Leon Clatterbuck, 71, of Front Royal, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at Warren Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Clatterbuck was born April 29, 1945, in Front Royal, son of Ray Roy and Rosie Clatterbuck.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Clatterbuck of Front Royal; two daughters, Stacy R. Crouch of Front Royal and Sadie R. Clatterbuck at home; sister Everlee Weary of Front Royal; brother Donald Clatterbuck of Front Royal; one grandson and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service was held Sunday, Jan. 22, at Maddox Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Marc Roberson.

Memorial contributions may be made to any charity for children.



Michael A. Feathers


Michael A. Feathers, 54, of Strasburg, passed away Jan. 20, 2017.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Funk Feathers; stepson Christopher Funk; sister, Vickie Burkhar, aunts, uncles and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde "Jr." and Patricia Feathers.

A celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Strasburg Community Center, 726 E. Queen St., Strasburg.

Arrangements are in the care of Heishman Funeral Home Inc., Valley Funeral Service branch, Edinburg.



Francis Y. Hudson


Francis Yowell Hudson, 88, of Boyce, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 20, 2017.

Francis was born on Jan. 31, 1928, the son of Floyd O. and Mary Frances Hudson.

He married Audrey Brown on July 1, 1951.

Surviving is his spouse of Boyce; daughter Jeanne Hudson of Boyce; son John Hudson of Berryville; three grandsons; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

His parents and two brothers, Floyd O. Hudson Jr. and Graham Hudson, preceded him in death.

The family received friends on Monday, Jan. 23, at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with a Masonic service being conducted by Treadwell Lodge No. 213. A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Berryville with the Rev. Jeff Butcher presiding. Burial followed in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Francisí memory to Boyce Volunteer Fire Co., PO Box 285, Boyce, VA 22620, Treadwell Lodge No. 213, 172 White Post Road, White Post, VA 22663 or to Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, 210 E. Main St., Berryville, VA 22611.



Sidney W. Ritter


Sidney Elizabeth Williams Ritter, 98, of Huntly, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017.

Mrs. Ritter was born April 26, 1918, in Huntly, daughter of Emmett and Ida Lucy Mills Williams. She was married to Amos Ritter.

Surviving are her sister Lucille West; her "children", Butch Ricker, Debbi Cahill, Kevin Ricker and Robin Dennis; numerous nieces and nephews; two great-nieces; one great-nephew; one great-great-niece; and two great-great-nephews.

Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

A graveside service was held Sunday, Jan. 22, in Willis Chapel Cemetery, conducted by Sammy Campbell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements were handled by Maddox Funeral Home Inc., Front Royal.



Jeanette E. Shipp


Jeanette Eileen Shipp, 84, died on Jan. 21, 2017, at Shenandoah Senior Living in Front Royal.

She was born on Dec. 22, 1932, in Kalamazoo, Mich.

She married Wilbur "Bill" Shipp on Feb. 2, 1952, who preceded her in death 10 years ago.

Jeanette's five children have survived her, William "Billy" Shipp of Melba, Idaho, Mark Shipp of Bakersfield, Calif., Matthew Shipp of Omaha, Neb., Marcia Wolcott of Manassas and Melanie Young of Nokesville. Other survivors include 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her brother, James Craft of Bakersfield, also survived her.

The interment will be at noon Friday, Jan. 27, at Quantico National Cemetery.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Feb. 24, 2017, at Spriggs Road Presbyterian Church, 13201 Spriggs Road, Manassas.

Charles R. Shull


Charles Randolph Shull, 79, of Stephens City, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2016.

Mr. Shull was born Aug. 1, 1937, in Clarke County, son of Thomas S. Shull and Nellie Maie Chapman Shull.

He married Patsy M. Cain on Oct. 30, 1959, in Hagerstown, Md.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patsy; son Randolph Shull of Winchester; daughter Terri Michele Borror of Stephens City; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Ellen Hockensmith of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Barbara A. Crespo of San Diego and Louise P. Kidwell of Charles Town, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lily M. Shull, William O. Shull and Earnest S. Shull.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Enders and Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville, with Pastor Robert Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
