Robert L. Butler

Robert Lee "Bobby" Butler, 61, of Woodstock and formerly of Front Royal, passed away on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017.

Bobby was born on Jan. 21, 1956, in Front Royal, son of James E. Butler Sr. and Cora Leigh Beatty Butler.

Surviving are five daughters, Tori Butler, Caitlin Butler, Amber McCauley, Morgan Butler and Chelsey Butler, all of Front Royal; one son, Brian McCauley of Front Royal; one brother, James E. "Boy" Butler Jr. of Lovettsville; one sister, Carolyn Bolton of Front Royal; four grandsons; and his companion Elise Conforte of Woodstock.

Bobby was preceded in death by his daughter, Jenna Butler; and two sisters, Brenda Butler and Judy Brookman.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., conducted by Sammy Campbell. The family will receive friends at the funeral hom from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.

Rainey F. Dorsey Jr.

Rainey Francis Dorsey Jr., 87, of Chester Gap, went to be with the Lord on March 3, 2017.

Rainey was born Jan. 12, 1930 in Westminster, Md. a son of Rainey Dorsey Sr. and Katherine Squirrel Dorsey.

Rainey is survived by his daughters, Fredia James of Asbury Park, N.J., and Rainer Perry of Chester Gap; his son, John Dorsey of Asbury Park, N.J.; his brothers, Roland Dorsey of Georgia and Robert Dorsey of Florida; his sister, Anna Wilson of Florida; and Glen Jackson of Maryland. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, stepchildren, and step-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2017 at 10 a.m. at City of Refuge Baptist Church, 4437 True Blue Road, Culpeper, with Pastor David Waller presiding. Inurnment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery at 2 p.m. with military honors.

Marvel R. Jackson

Marvel Roberts Jackson, 70, of Front Royal, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017.

A Homegoing Celebration will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Beulah Baptist Church in Markham. Burial will follow in Mount Morris Community Cemetery, Hume. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Arrangements are being handled by Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal.

Melinda L. Kell

Melinda Louise Kell, 60, of Front Royal, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017.

Melinda was born June 8, 1956, in Warren, Ohio, daughter of Richard A. Kell and Mary Louise Farrell Kell.

She is survived by her spousal equivalent Rich Goddard; her sisters, Katherine Kell and Mary Alice Kell; her extended family and four nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Rockland Community Church, 2921 Rockland Road, conducted by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Vince McLaughlin. All friends are welcome to attend.

Arrangements are by Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal, VA.

Beatrice J. Ritenour

Beatrice Johnson Ritenour, 98, a resident of Strasburg, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017.

She was born in Fort Valley on July 14, 1918, a daughter of Charles and Clara Cave Johnson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Granville Ritenour Sr.; son Jacob G. Ritenour Jr.; and siblings Clarence, Carson, William and Allen Johnson and Elsie Fravel.

Survivors include her children, Judith R. Troxell of Strasburg, Trudy Ritenour of Woodstock and Allan "Moe" Ritenour of Strasburg; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service for Mrs. Ritenour was conducted Monday, March 6, at the Strasburg Christian Church, with the Rev. Alfred Lawrence officiating. Burial followed in Detrick Cemetery, Fort Valley.

Memorials may be made to the Fort Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary, 7088 Fort Valley Road, Fort Valley, VA 22652.

Arrangements were handled by Stover Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., Strasburg.

Dennis W. Wines

Dennis W. "Denny" Wines Sr., 67, of Front Royal, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 8, at Grace Fellowship Church, 55 Westminster Drive. A reception was held at the church after the service.

Mr. Wines was born Dec. 3, 1949 in Front Royal, son of Haywood Wines and Sybil Elizabeth Fox Wines.

Surviving are his wife, Joan T. Wines of Front Royal; son Dennis W. Wines of Middletown; daughter Tracy Fincham of Toms Brook; sister Teresa Magalis of Front Royal; two stepbrothers, Bobby Costello and Buster Costello; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lorraine Wines Pennington Lichliter and Linda Wines Thompson; two nieces; and a stepmother, Frances Wines.

Arrangements were handled by Maddox Funeral Home Inc., Front Royal.

Peggy A. Woodward

Peggy Andrews Woodward, 67, died March 1, 2017 in Culpeper.

Peggy was born on April 18, 1949, in Front Royal, to Giles and Catherine (Fogle) Andrews.

Peggy is preceded in death by her sisters, Patricia Kremer and Billie Jean Andrews and infant son Kevin Wayne Sutphin.

She is survived by her companion Henry Fronius; children Tracy Miller and M. Wayne Sutphin Jr.; siblings, Ray Andrews, Rex Andrews, Rita Merchant, Terry Franklin; and dog Brandy.

A memorial gathering will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, 1200 N. Shenandoah Ave. Please bring a story about Peggy to share.

Flowers may be sent to the funeral home. A family burial will be held at Panorama Memorial Gardens in Waterlick, Virginia on Friday, March 10 at 11 a.m.?
