Gerald E. Hite

Gerald "Jerry" Edward Hite, 77, of Chester Gap, and formerly of Sterling, died Monday, June 12, 2017, at his home.

Mr. Hite was born Sept. 16, 1939, in Leesburg, son of the late Andrew B. Hite Sr. and Irene V. Hite.

Surviving with his wife Frances Gardner Hite are his son Kenneth Hite of Winchester; daughter, Kelli Strobel of Chester Gap; two grandchildren; brothers, Andy Hite of Leesburg and Joey Hite of Gainesville; and sister, Betty Lee Powers of Berryville.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, 1050 W. Main St., Berryville. A memorial service will immediately follow with Pastor Jay Ahlemann officiating. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601.

Mary R. McDonald

Mary Ann Ruffner McDonald, 75, of Front Royal, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 8, 2017.

Mrs. McDonald was born on Sept. 12, 1941, in Front Royal to Paul Ruffner Sr. and Lucille Walker Ruffner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard McDonald and son Michael McDonald.

Survivors include her son Daniel McDonald of Strasburg; brother Paul R. Ruffner Jr. of Front Royal; sister Kay Hickey of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; four grandchildren and her precious cat, Miss Teeny.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 13, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., with Sammy Campbell officiating. Burial followed in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Warren County, 1245 Progress Drive, Front Royal.

Wayne E. Niskanen

Wayne Eric Niskanen was born on Sept. 8, 1935, and died on June 10, 2017.

Kaye K. Norris

Kaye Virginia Keyser Norris, 74, of Woodstock, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at her home.

Mrs. Norris was born March 27, 1943, in Front Royal, daughter of Joseph William and Clara Sedwick Keyser.

She is survived by two daughters, Alice Paje Cross and Meredith Fletcher Norris, both of Woodstock; son Richard Barrett Norris of Middletown; six grandchildren; lifelong friend James A. Cross; and close friend Ron Crabtree.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, the Rev. Richard Eaton Norris.

A memorial service was held Saturday, June 3,at St. Johnís United Methodist Church, Edinburg. The Rev. Robert Jones officiated. Burial was private at Cedarwood Cemetery in Edinburg.

Robert D. Smith

Robert Duane Smith, 52, of Richmond and formerly of Strasburg, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017.

Rob was born July 2, 1964, in Arlington, a son of Bob and Ida Smith.

In addition to his parents, Rob is survived by his daughters Kristina E. Smith and Beth Wood Smith of Richmond; his loving companion Carolyn Brooks and her children, Chris Brooks, Aimee B. O'Flaherty and Tyler Brooks; his siblings, Kevin Smith and Leslie Smith Doman, all of Strasburg; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Rob will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Strasburg, with the Rev. G. William Nabers and the Rev. William H. Hall II officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 156 W. Washington St., Strasburg, VA 22657 or Hospice Community Care, 10128 W. Broad St., Suite J, Glen Allen, VA 23060.

James F. Vannoy

James Franklin ìJimmyî Vannoy, 82, of Front Royal, died Saturday, June 3, 2017.

Mr. Vannoy was born Dec. 7, 1934, in North Wilkesboro, N.C., son of the late James Arlie Vannoy and Rosetta Holloway Vannoy.

Surviving are his wife Miriam J. Vannoy; three children, George Franklin Vannoy of Manassas, Richard Lee Vannoy of Seattle, and Brenda Jean Mitchell of Manassas; two stepsons Wesley Rowland and Maurice Rowland; sisters, Betty Jane McCall of Manassas, Alice Sue Proffitt of Manassas, Rosa Lee Cox of Warrenton, Linda Catherine Davidson of Manassas, and Patricia Ann Brooks of Manassas; brothers, Larry Vannoy of Bristow and Michael Eugene Vannoy of Manassas; and numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Monday, June 12, at Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal, conducted by Pastor Henry Stanley. Burial was held at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas.

Dwight A. Yates

Dwight Anthony Yates, 69, of Strasburg, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017.

Dwight was born May 3, 1948, in Winchester, a son of Russell Wilson and Lottie Mae Wisecarver Yates Sr.

Surviving are his wife, Sally Neal Yates; his two children, Allison Martin of Strasburg and Christian Yates of Salem; his sister, Sandra Kay Yates of Strasburg; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Sonny Yates.

A memorial service was conducted Friday, June 9, at Strasburg Christian Church, with the Rev. Carter Alsberry Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg, with Masonic rites conducted by Spurmont Lodge No. 98, A.F. & A.M.
