Chris L. Bodkin


Chris Lane Bodkin, 68, of Strasburg, passed away May 2, 2017.
A memorial service will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 30, at Stover Memorial Chapel, Strasburg, with the Rev. Jody Osborne officiating.



Debra A. Campbell


Debra Ann Campbell, 47, of Front Royal, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017.

Debra was born on Nov. 21, 1969, in Winchester, to William Harold Lawson and Elizabeth Ann Gray Lawson, both of Front Royal.

Surviving along with her parents are her husband Ronald Lee Campbell of Front Royal; two daughters, Kayla Nicole Campbell of Front Royal and Amber Leighann Campbell of Strasburg; brother William Harold Lawson II of Front Royal; sister Pamela Michelle Lawson of Marshall; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Kaínyla Nevaeh Campbell and her grandfather Howard George Gray.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., with Sammy Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Panorama Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Maddox Funeral Home.



Philip E. Harr Jr.


Philip E. Harr Jr., 57, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017.

Philip was born June 7, 1960, in Alexandria, son of Philip E. Harr Sr. and Eleanor Rita Martin Harr.

He is survived by his wife Doris E. Harr; son Justin Harr of Harrisonburg; daughter Rachel Harr of Front Royal; sisters Susan Sacco of Richmond and Diana Copeland of Florida; and his faithful dog Kita.

A celebration of Philip's life was held Wednesday, June 28, at Maddox Funeral Home, with Sammy Campbell officiating. Inurnment was private.

Dorothy M. Mumaw


Dorothy M. Harlow Wilson Mumaw, 91, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017, at Whispering Pines Assisted Living in Luray.

She was born July 3, 1925, in Page County, the daughter of William David and Lillie Cedalia Freese Harlow.

On Dec. 7, 1996, she married Landon E. Mumaw and they made their home in Waynesboro.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Junior Wilson; brother, Roy Lee Harlow; and sister, Norma Lou Good. Her husband, Landon Mumaw, passed away in January 2010.

She is survived by two sons, Donnie R. (Danette Painter) Wilson, of Waynesboro, and Jerry R. Wilson of Mississippi; brother Ralph W. Harlow of Shenandoah; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, June 27, at Bradley Funeral Home, Luray, by Pastor Earl Painter. Burial will be private.

Instead of flowers, please make a donation in Dorothy's memory to the Newport Christian Church Cemetery Fund, Shenandoah.



James E. Nicholson Sr.


James Elvis Nicholson Sr., 82, of Front Royal, died Saturday, June 24, 2017.

He was born on Feb. 8, 1935, in Madison and was a son of James Lewis Nicholson and Ethel Mae Butler Nicholson. On July 4, 1956, he married Shirley Ann Woodard Nicholson, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Jim E. Nicholson Jr. of Quicksburg and Daniel Lee Nicholson of Luray; a daughter, Cathy Stead of Blackstone; a sister, Doris Vest of Flint Hill; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services are planned for a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center, Gardening Activity, in Winchester.

Arrangements are being handled by Bradley Funeral Home, Luray.



Roy A. Pangle


Roy Arthur "Junior" Pangle, 90, of Strasburg, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017.

Mr. Pangle was born April 11, 1927, on Capon Road, Strasburg, a son of James Arthur and Zelda Belle Beeler Pangle.

Surviving with his wife Margaret Ann Rennie Pangle are two sons, Morgan O. Pangle and Dale A. Pangle; three daughters, Beverly D. Anderson, Cynthia E. Grant and Alesia "Ann" Miller, all of Strasburg; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers, Jack, Teddy, Frank, Leonard, Guy, Fred, Curtis, Earl and Pat Pangle; and three sisters, Lorraine Bell, Ruth Beeler and Beulah Maples.

The family received friends at Stover Funeral Home, 177 N. Holliday St., Strasburg on Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Strasburg United Methodist Church with the Revs. John E. Haynes Jr. and William E. Erbach officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon Church Cemetery with military honors by Shenandoah American Legion Post No. 77.

Memorials may be made to Mrs. Margaret Pangle, 2003 John Marshall Hwy., Strasburg, VA 22657.

Arrangements are being handled by Stover Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., Strasburg.



Justin T. Showers


Justin Thomas Showers, 26, of Front Royal, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017.

Justin was born Aug. 9, 1990, in Front Royal, son of Dewayne Showers and Pamela Race Showers, both of Front Royal.

Surviving along with his parents are his maternal grandparents, Pam Race of Australia and Robert Race of Stephens City; two sisters, Kristin Showers and Reagin Tannehill, both of Front Royal; six aunts, four uncles and his beloved dog, Zeus.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Thomas Henry "Tommy" Showers Jr. and Ann Vaught Showers.

A memorial service was held Sunday, June 25, at Maddox Funeral Home. A reception followed the service at the Linden United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

Betty B. Taylor


Betty Lee Breeden Taylor, 87, of Warren County, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 26, 2017, in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Taylor was born on July 21, 1929, in Petersburg, W.Va., daughter of Paul Leon Shoff and Grace Holloway Shoff.

Surviving are three sons, Ernie Breeden of Warren County, Kenneth Allen Breeden of Warren County and Jerry Carlton Breeden of Front Royal; daughter Sharon Tharpe of Browntown; sister Patricia Ellis of Virginia Beach; three grandsons; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her parents; son Paul Leon "Buzzy" Breeden and daughter-in-law Dara Breeden.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 30, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., with Sammy Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
