Robert S. Bowman

Robert ìBobî Stanley Bowman, 61, of Chester Gap, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017.

Mr. Bowman was born on July 22, 1955, in Alexandria.

Survivors include his mother Merilyn Krumm Reitnauer; life partner Van Huyhn; son Gregory Randall Bowman; two sisters, Barbara E. Tomayko and Susan Bowman Lockhart.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Reformation Lutheran Church, 601 Madison Road, Culpeper. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. with the service at 3.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601.

Stanley W. Brooks Sr.

Stanley W. Brooks Sr., 98, passed from this life at his home on Monday evening July 3, 2017.

Born on Dec. 25, 1918, he was raised in Matoaca, Dinwiddie County, by his parents, Royal and Delia Brooks.

Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his wife Catherine Derflinger Brooks in 2015. He also was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers.

Mr. Brooks is survived by his daughter Donna (Steve) Brady of Warren County; son Stan Brooks Jr. of Front Royal; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Saturday, July 8, at Marlow Heights Baptist Church.

Arrangements were handled by Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal.

Larry H. Clark

Larry H. Clark, 73, went to be with the Lord on July 5, 2017.

He was born on July 4, 1944 in Rappahannock County.

Larry is survived by his mother Frances Hudson; son Gary Clark ìClerbî; one granddaughter; sister Madeline Herndon; half brother Barry Hudson; half sister Kathy Hudson and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Butler Clark; son Larry Clark ìLerbusî and most recently, his dog Taffi, who he sometimes called Tater.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 11, at Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal, with Sammy Campbell officiating. Burial followed at Rockland Cemetery.

Thomas L. Dickinson

Thomas Lee Dickinson ìP.C. Docî, 66, of Front Royal, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017.

Mr. Dickinson was born on March 19, 1951, in Beeville, Texas, to the late Louis LaMonte Dickinson and Avis Edgely Dickinson.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Gloria Cannon Dickinson; three daughters, Sally Mae Dickinson, Ginger Ann Ruddy and Jeaucolette ìMissyî Briggs; three sons, Jon LaMonte Dickinson, Malachi A. Dickinson and Peter M. Dickinson; brother, Louis LaMonte Dickinson Jr.; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 23, at Front Royal United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Post 53, 22 W. 8th St., Front Royal, VA 22630.

Donald J. Furr Sr.

Donald Jerry "Duck" Furr Sr., 76, of Front Royal, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017.

Duck was born on Nov. 29, 1940, in Front Royal, son of the late Woodrow Furr and Lucille Amanda Figgins Furr Lewis.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Greta J. Furr; three sons, Joey Rhodes of Stephens City, Donnie J. Furr Jr. of Stephens City, and Andy Furr of Front Royal; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Rhodes.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, conducted by Sammy Campbell. Interment will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery with military honors.

Noll L. Horan

Noll Lynn Horan, 68, of Springfield and formerly of Strasburg, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017.

Mr. Horan was born March 20, 1949 in Winchester, the son of Augustus Noll Horan and Gloria Crabill Johnson.

Surviving are his children, Stacy Collins and Sara Horan, of Springfield; his stepmother, Elizabeth "Nookie" Horan of Strasburg; two half-brothers, Frank T. Horan and Tracy Johnson of Winchester; a half sister, Heather Johnson of Winchester; his former wife, Connie Horan of Virginia Beach and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A son, Hunter Augustus Horan, is deceased.

Services will be private.

Arrangements are being handled by Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg.

James H. Payne

James Howard Payne, 87, of Front Royal, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Lynn Care Center.

He was born Dec. 15, 1929, in Washington, D.C., a son of John Howard and Nancy Jobyna Kelly Payne.

He was married to the late Jane Dempsey Payne.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Payne (Paul) Berry of Manassas Park; a son John Arthur (Beth) Payne of Front Royal; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters.

A funeral service was held Monday, July 3, at at Maddox Funeral Home, conducted by Pastor Danny Clegg. Interment followed in Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon.
