Rodgers D. Alger

Rodgers Deane Alger, 62, of Pensacola, Fla., died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at his home.

He was born in Page County and was a son of the late Rumsey L. Alger Sr. and Chellie Hazel Deane Alger.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Lorna Stockner Jones of Pensacola; two brothers, Larry E. Alger of Richmond, and Jerry A. Alger of Dayton; and two sisters, Shelby J. Alger Buracker of Front Royal, and Phyllis L. Alger Seal of Luray.

He was preceded in death by his brother Rumsey L. Alger Jr.

Burial will be held at a later date in the Ed Alger Family Cemetery, Rileyville.

Melvin L. Jordan

Melvin Louis Jordan, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Md.

He was born in Nov. 9, 1934, in Flint Hill and was a son of the late James and Margaret Adams Jordan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife of 31 years Eleanor Russell Jordan, brothers James Jordan and Milton Jordan.

He is survived by his wife, Mollie Slaughter Jordan; sons Enoch (Deborah) Hughes of Philadelphia and Anthony Jordan of Washington, D.C.; daughters, Valerie (Clifford) Foote of New Carrollton, Md.; Mary (Nathaniel) McClees of Beltsville, Md., Karen Jordan of Beltsville; and sister Irmeshen Starks of Astoria, N.Y.; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Lt. Col. Scott R. Kriz (USAF, Ret.)

Lt. Col Scott R. Kriz (USAF, Ret) peacefully passed away August 23, 2017 at his home in Middletown, with his wife of 49 years, Charlene, at his side. He was 71 years old.

Scott is survived by his wife Charlene, son Brian (and wife Anne), daughter Renee (and husband Mike), seven beloved grandchildren, and sisters Dale and Jamie.

Private services and military burial will be held.

Harry D. Locke Sr.

Harry Daniel Locke Sr., 89, of Strasburg and formerly of Wilmington, Del., died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017.

Harry is survived by his wife, Bernice Lewis Locke; son, Harry Daniel (Dan) Locke Jr of Strasburg; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Ethel (Peters) Locke; sisters Mary Dauberman and Margaret Baxter; and brothers Vernon Locke, Howard Locke, William Locke, and Carl Milton Locke.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 6, at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Del., officiated by the Rev. Bo Matthews. Interment followed the service in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Marcus Hook, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Harry's name to Emmanuel Church at Fishers Hill, P.O. Box 45, Fishers Hill, VA 22626.

Alva L. Maddox

Alva "Van" Levan Maddox went to rest with Jesus on Aug. 28, 2017.

Born Sept. 28, 1924, he is survived by his wife Anne and family.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at New Covenant Methodist Church, 3470 Woodridge Drive, The Villages, Fla. A celebration of his life will follow the service at Lake Miona Recreation Center, 1526 Buena Vista Blvd., The Villages, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted in Vanís honor at New Covenant Methodist Church, where he was a longtime member.

Arrangements are being handled by Beyers Funeral Home and Crematory, Lady Lake, Fla.

Randolph S. Stickles

Randolph "Randy" Scott Stickles, 50, of Strasburg, passed away Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017.

He was born on Aug. 15, 1967, in Winchester, and was the son of the late Richard Stickles and Jean Painter Miller of Strasburg.

In addition to his wife, Michelle Quesenberry Stickles, Mr. Stickles is survived by his son Taylor Stickles of Gore; three daughters, Katie Geraghty of Carlisle, Pa., Samantha Geraghty of Edinburg, and Lynnzie Long of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; sister, Rebecca Stickles Rush of Winchester; two brothers, Richard Stickles of Strasburg, and Kenneth Mille of Richmond; a granddaughter; paternal grandmother, Loretta Campbell of Strasburg; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He also is survived by his dog and other best friend, Hunter "Peedo."

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 114 W. Washington St., Strasburg, with Pastor William Erbach officiating.

Cornell S. Stoots

Cornell Staples Stoots, 83, of Front Royal, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 29, 2017.

Mrs. Stoots was born Sept. 27, 1933, in Fredericksburg, and was a daughter of the late John Enoch Staples Sr. and Elsie Mae Chewning Staples.

Surviving are her husband Howard Lewis Stoots of Front Royal; three daughters, Sharon (Matt) Bayne of Beaver Dam, Melodie Carter of Williamsburg and Donna (Larry) Laing of Gore; brother John E. (Pat) Staples Jr. of Stephens City; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous caretakers, friends and fellow church members.

She was preceded in death by her son Daniel Stoots and sister Joyce Staples.

A funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 1, at at Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal, conducted by Pastor Steve Guizar. Burial followed in Panorama Memorial Gardens.

Harry T. Tyson

Harry Thomas Tyson, 73, of Strasburg, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017.

Mr. Tyson was born May 5, 1944, in Washington, D.C., a son of the late Morris and Dorothy Beckert Tyson.

Surviving are his companion, Shirley Childress of Strasburg; two sons, Harry Thomas Tyson Jr. of Edinburg and Thomas Patrick Tyson of Strasburg; brother Morris Tyson of Maryland; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Tyson.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal. Burial followed in Panorama Memorial Gardens.
