William C. Beaty Jr.


William "Will" Carson Beaty Jr., 43, of Front Royal, passed away on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017.

Will was born April 10, 1974, in Front Royal.

Surviving along with his mother Joan Franklin Viands and her husband Jerry Viands is his stepfather, James Ralls and his wife Lynda Ralls.

He was preceded in death by his father William Carson Beaty.

He is also survived by three sons, Alic Sloat, Aden Hamman and Aron Hamman; three daughters, Whitney Beaty, LeeAnn Kirby and Jenna Lee; two sisters, Jeoranie "Jo" Neff and Beverly Reynolds; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today at First Assembly of God, 1111 Shenandoah Ave.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to his eldest son, Alic Sloat to help with final expenses, in care of Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., Front Royal.



Leslie P. Budd


Leslie Paul ìPee Weeî Budd Sr., 64, of Front Royal, passed away Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at John Hopkins University Medical Center, Baltimore.

Mr. Budd was born Jan. 18, 1953, in Alexandria, and was a son of the late Rueben Budd and Lucille Peregoy Budd.

Survivors include his wife, Debora Budd of Front Royal; two sons, William Thomas Budd of Louisa and Leslie Paul Budd II of Front Royal; two daughters, Crystal Renee Budd and Melissa Gail Budd, both of Front Royal; two brothers, Rueben Budd of Tacoma, Wash., and Stephen Craig Budd of Front Royal; sister, Bonnie Belle Hoffman of Front Royal; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family for the celebration of life.

Arrangements are being handled by Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal.



Raymond L. Cox Sr.


Raymond Lee Cox Sr., 80, of Front Royal, died on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017.

The family received friends on Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.

He leaves behind his son Randy Lee Cox of Front Royal; daughter Sherry Ann Rowe of Luray; a grandson, and beloved nieces, nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Raymond L. Cox Jr. and his wife Judith Cox.

A graveside service was held Wednesday, Sept. 20, in Prospect Hill Cemetery, conducted by Sammy Campbell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601.



Harold C. Devers


Harold C. ìBumpî Devers, 65, of Front Royal, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017.

Bump was born on Dec. 10, 1951, in Alexandria, and was a son of the late Albert Devers and Iola Virginia Javins Devers Shirley.

Surviving are three sisters, Lorretta Mitchell of Stephens City, Linda Compton of Front Royal and Brenda Wickouski of Culpeper; and one brother David Devers of Front Royal.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Gary ìRedî Devers; sister Pauline Brown; and one nephew.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., with Pastor Danny Clegg officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria.

Anna M. Kerns


Anna Mae Kerns, 86, of Front Royal, passed away on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017.

Mrs. Kerns was born June 25, 1931, in Montgomery County, Pa., and was a daughter of the late Lynn Guy Dodson. She was married to the late Elmer Lee Kerns.

Surviving are two sons, Leon Kerns and Frank Kerns, both of Front Royal; one daughter, Nancy Lee Kerns Shaver; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kerns was preceded in death by her husband; daughter Ann Kerns Carter; and one granddaughter.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Maddox Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hollis Hillman officiating. Interment followed in the Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas.

Arrangements were handled by Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal.



Charles E. Lake


Charles E. Lake, 83 of Front Royal, left this earth Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017.

Charlie was born on Aug. 25, 1934, in Warren County.

He was preceded in death by his father James O. Lake, mother Daisy B. Lake and brother J. Nolan Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Paige Lake, daughters Rhonda Lingo, Robbin Lloyd and H.T. Lloyd. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. Included in his family, he has a sister Dorothy Finnell and many nieces and nephews.

Family night was held Wednesday at Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Panorama Memorial Gardens, Strasburg Road.

Carol G. Weddle


Carol Gustafson Weddle, 88, of Front Royal, passed away Friday, Sept. 8, 2017.

Carol was born in Lynn, Mass., on Sept. 4, 1929, and was a daughter of the late Nils Robert and Gladys Moore Gustafson.

She is survived by her husband Ben Weddle; sister Deborah Avery of Bridgewater, N.H.; son Jeff Weddle of Moneta; daughter Lisa Weddle of Cresskill, N.J.; son Sam Weddle of Front Royal; daughter Cynthia Weddle of Lovettsville; her eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her older sister Nancy C. Worth in 2015, and daughter Caryl Leigh Weddle in 1986.

A funeral service was conducted Saturday, Sept. 16, at Front Royal Presbyterian Church, with retired Pastor Dr. Tom Rhyne and interim pastor Ed Dawkins officiating. A private graveside service was conducted at the Rockland Community Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
