BASEBALL: Murphy picked up by Nats

LURAY — Former Luray Wranglers baseballl standout, Daniel Murphy, is settling in nicely at his new home with the Washington Nationals.

Murphy finished the 2015 season with the New York Mets as one of the top hitters in the MLB.

He recorded 140 hits, 73 RBI and 14 home runs during his 2015 campaign.

In January, Murphy signed a three-year deal with the Nationals worth $ 35.7 million.

So far in Spring Training, Murphy has shined at the first place position where he is likely to become the starter. His hitting hasn’t lived up to expectations as of yet, as the former Met is batting just .174/.208/.261 through 23 at-bats.
