Football Roundup 9/22: Is Luray a legitimate state championship contender?

On a night where a couple of the Valley's best teams stood idle, upstart Luray cruised to a 5-0 record.

Tonight's Highlights:

Luray 55, Wilson 14

After another blowout win, the Bulldogs are now averaging 49.2 points per game. Luray is off next week and won't play again until it hosts undefeated Robert E. Lee on October 6 — a game with massive 2A playoff implications.

Warren County 33, Strasburg 24

The night's best game saw Wildcats tailback Ronald Dodson gallop for more than 250 rushing yards, a new career best. Strasburg scored 16 points in the first four minutes but was outscored 33-8 over the final 44.

East Rock 36, Page 8

Only down 8-0 at halftime, Page looked like it might have a chance for its first-ever win over East Rockingham. Instead, the Panthers (2-2) return home for a game with Buffalo Gap on the horizon. East Rock halted its two-game losing streak.

Other Scores:

Harrisonburg 42, Broadway 6

Riverheads 31, Buffalo Gap 21

Lee 70, Stonewall Jackson 22

Spotswood 14, William Fleming 13

Waynesboro 42, Turner Ashby 27

Rockbridge County 49, Fort Defiance 14
