Football Roundup, 9/30: Harrisonburg and East Rock are Biggest Winners at Valley Classic

10 teams competed in JMU's second-annual Valley High School Football Classic at Bridgeforth Stadium this weekend. Games spanned from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening. Games from the Classic are marked with an asterisk.

This Weekend's Highlights:

East Rockingham 35, Stuarts Draft 28*

In a game that left the Shenandoah District with more questions than answers, the Eagles created some intriguing buzz by beating the Cougars for East Rock's first real marquee win of the season. Draft was considered an upper-echelon team in the District prior to the loss; they still may be, but a loss to East Rock suggests the Cougars may not be in the same league as frontrunners like Riverheads, Lee and Luray.

As for East Rock, its upcoming Oct. 13 home game with Buffalo Gap is probably the biggest remaining game on the schedule.

Harrisonburg 35, Waynesboro 27*

The Blue Streaks evened their record at 3-3 behind junior runningback Marcus Robinson-Jenkins' 211 scrimmage yards and two scores.

Skyline 28, Strasburg 26

Away from the Classic, Strasburg failed to convert a 2-point conversion in the final two minutes of regulation, losing to a Warren County school for the second straight week.

Other scores:

Clarke County 29, Warren County 21

Central 52, King William 16

Riverheads 59, Stonewall Jackson 0

Lee 63, Wilson 20*

Rockbridge 49, Turner Ashby 20

Buffalo Gap 62, Page County 18*

Spotswood 44, Broadway 14*
